BTW, I did not actually "create" an Apple. I merely priced Apple products on its website, included third party products, and then added up the price. I have it written down at home, I'll try to find it.
That's what my system would have cost at the time. And the Apple I created cost three times more. Your belief or lack thereof does not change the facts, only your perception of the facts.
You're right, I should have added the cost of my time.
Considering my system cost about $1,700. And considering that Apple's system cost over three times that. And considering it probably took at most 3 hours to build my system. I guess my time was worth $1,133 per hour NOT to buy from Apple! Thanks!
Everyone who responded negatively to my posting argued exactly the same thing: What Bobby Fischer did was against the law, he knew it was against the law, so he should be punished for violating the law.
While that is technically true, none of you stopped to consider that maybe, just maybe, the law was wrong.
For example, imagine if there was a law that stated that anyone wearing plaid would be shot on sight. The next day thousands are shot dead for wearing plaid. It was the law, they knew it was the law, and they were punished. Would any of you agree that justice was served?! I sure in hell hope not!
"DRM isn't bad. It has value, and it has its place."
The CD by Velvet Revolver has DRM. It keeps legitimate users from making copies. However, the CD was readily available for illegal downloading weeks before it was released. Thus, legitimate buyers cannot use it on their iPods and piracy was NOT stopped in anyway. Can you please explain to me where this value is?
"It's illegal to pick locks on people's houses.." But it is NOT illegal to make copies of the music we buy. In fact, it's perfectly legal to make compilation/various tapes and CDs to share with friends and family, as long as you don't profit. The first rule of analogies: The situations MUST be analogous!
If people are considered intelligent for willingly paying three times more for less performance, then I'm proud to be a moron!
BTW, the my "three times" figure come from personal experience. I added up the cost of my home built system. I then added up how much a comparable system from Apple (and from third parties, since Apple doesn't offer everything my system has) would cost. As I stated, Apple's was three times more.
Which is truly shocking considering that Apple uses assembly-lines and cheap foreign labor to build their products, while mine was crafted by my own hands in real time.
He sort of makes sense to me...

While I'd never condone terrorist activity, I too would hate a country that tried to arrest me for simply playing chess. As an American I'm utterly embarrassed.

Actually, I generally like Sowell's writings. Even when I disagree with him I admire his sense of logic and reason.
I was just making fun of the fact that he tends to rant quite often about how his children were misdiagnosed by our nation's liberal school system.
My wife works in the public school system, so from her stories I know they are far from perfect. But come on Sowell, give it a rest. Your children are adults. Get over it!
I don't know where you live, but in the US HDTV tuners generally cost more than 300 bucks.
The cheapest I could find on Amazon was $299.87, but it did NOT allow you to record and edit what you watch.
Most HDTV monitors sold are just that, monitors. They do not include HDTV tuners. And even if your HDTV TV comes with a built in HD tuner, you cannot record HD content.
I'm not saying that Elgato has the best deal, buy it certainly is a good deal.
The best deal is ATI's upcoming HD version of its AIW series, which will only cost about 200 bucks. It comes with a remote. And if you have an ATI graphics card in your PC, you could use ATI's component video out adapter to connect your computer directly to your HDTV monitor.
There may be disagreement but the quote IS valid. It IS true that in "British English, singular words like family, team, government, which refer to groups of people, can be used with either singular or plural verbs and pronouns."
It even contrasts it with the way we do in in the US:
"In American English singular verbs are normally used with most of these nouns in all cases."

And here's anther one: "Collective nouns: Nouns like 'team' and 'company' that describe multiple people are often used with the plural form of a verb in British English, and with the singular form in American. British "the team are concerned"; American 'the team is concerned'" http://brandt.kurowski.net/projects/l sa/wiki/view. cgi?doc=400

Not many people know this, because, not many people watch it, but PBS used to show a fair amount of nudity. Back when I was an engineer for a PBS station, I used to keep a tape of breast footage entitled, "The Greatest Tits of Masterpiece Theatre."
I've been told by friends who still work at PBS that it no longer shows boobies. That's too bad.
It's amazing how just a little juxtaposition could change everything.
So the argument is essentially a lie that everyone uses.
So merely because the US has fucked up copyright laws, every other country has to follow suit for the sake of uniformity?!
Oh yeah, that makes sense!

It may be a gimmick, but I'm using it at work right now. I've got a 21" and a 17" connected to a Radeon card. It's great.
Matrox tried something similar with its Dual-Head output. It took ATI and nVidia about three months to copy it. I don't see it working here.
Thanks for pointing that out!!! You're absolutely correct. I had read that but forgot all about it. It's certainly NOT worth 30 bucks.

I can't believe it, Thomas Sowell NOT writing/ranting about developmentally delayed children! He must have hired a ghost writer.
