On my HD TV, I can set my computer's display to something 16:9 (1920x1080) for example, and then the display will scale the picture. This is fine for video (and in fact, this is what displays like this are doing for video content all the time) but it looks bad for interface elements (unless they are large enough to look good in such a mode, like the Front Row stuff, or other media center type applications).
Well, I had an old 8600/250G3 with over 800GB of HD space crammed into it for quite a while, running 10.2 Server. I had no end of trouble getting 10.3 server to run on it, and have given up for the moment.
My old PowerBook 170 used to wake nearly instantly, back in the days of System 7.1 or so. I think the old skool AppleTalk and MacTCP were much better about not dorking around than Open Transport.
Of course, the 170 had psuedo-static RAM (or something) and could sleep for weeks.
Actually, the new iMac G4 power plug is used outside of Apple. I've got a Compaq Armada laptop that uses the same connector. So at least they (Apple) didn't totally make it up. I totally agree that it's silly buggers of them to use a weird cable like that.
When I bought my dual 867, through a convoluted series of circumstances, I ended up sitting around the Apple store after closing time. The "super high-tech(TM)" method that the apple guys had to re-image their machines was to drag around Firewire disk drives.
So, at least at that point, apple didn't have a "fancy" solution to this problem.
Seriously. Those Indian guys are all so hardworking and smart and stuff, they don't need to wonder how to goof off, they goof off harder and more efficiently than lazy Americans.
People just don't apply stereotypes effectively...
I think that Quietti was going by the "would you cry if you lost that standard."
As such, stuff you created yourself would most likely fit in that category, while huge piles of mp3's, etc would not
So, you would have (at least) 2 drives. Maybe more. A bulletproof 2-4GB drive for "cry if I lot that stuff" and other, larger drives for the big stuff.
Digital pictures, home movies, etc. definately fit into the veil of tears category, but large cap. HDD's don't have the reliabilty necessary for these. So, we burn CD's and DVD's.
This is all theoretical, my only "backup" is that I have three computers that I roughly sync my important files between...
Tears could be in my future.

SlashIQ
How to calculate the combined IQ of slashdot.
Take the IQ of the lowest IQ'd slashdot user (we'll exclude the folks who just read, and haven't figured out how to get an account, which should bump this figure up by at least 3 points)
Divide by the total number of slashdot users.
I will leave the actual calculation to the reader.

Could type, AND "mouse" without moving your hands.
Two mouse buttons, above and below trackball, the top one basically flush to the keyboard. You could have you fingers on the home row, move the 'ball with a thumb and click with the other thumb. Was great for word processing. It's no wonder that there are still (admitadly somewhat nuts) people out there who still do a lot of writing on their PowerBook 170's and whatnot. Plus, Word 4 and 5.1 were quite nice as were MacWrite Pro and some other classics...
Well, you've got it. There is keychain support in v62. I just went to a site that I had keychained in Chimera, and Safari used the login through the keychain. Did it more smoothly than Chimera to boot.
So, there you go.
It depends what you want to do...

"4-by-4 cube with 16 squares per side." Unlike the less successful 4-by-4 cube with 19 squares per side.

Power over 802.11x... Oh, and remind me to buy lead pajamas then too...
Yeah, like when that lowly IT guy looks at the headers in their e-mail and points out to personnel that their PHB is AWOL.

...use the PPC 970. Because otherwise my slashdot nick won't be so cool!!

Good programmers are engineers. They create structure and maintainability, they make code that makes sense and works.
Bad programmers are code monkeys.
