"But Ms. Mayer, the company's chief executive, will be well compensated for her failure"
A quick look at the stock price of Yahoo over the last five years shows that the value of the company has just about tripled. If you're only looking at the things us tech folks hate (and I agree that there's plenty to dislike), then you're failing at properly evaluating her as a CEO.
Basic...in high school, circa 1973, on teletypes, with acoustic modems and paper tape. FORTRAN... the first language I was taught in CS when I decided it was time to get out of working on hardware...around '84 Pascal... intermediate CS C...one of my last CS classes C++...at work in the late 90s PHB...when I was pushed into management
I've gotta laugh at all the whining I'm reading here about loud parties, and neighbors who are suddenly living next to a hotel. I bought my home in a brand new upscale neighborhood full of McMansions seventeen years ago. I expected it to be peaceful, and yet I have kids who ride bikes across my lawn to get to a neighbors trampoline. Other neighbors with souped up hot rods and Harleys that make noise just because they want attention. And other neighbors who's kids come home at 2am with their windows down, and subwoofer thumping some hip hop that feels like a 5 on the Richter Scale. If some neighbor decided to rent out their home, or a portion of it, I highly doubt anyone would notice.
Unless you have some actual statistics on complaints from neighbors, I'd suggest that you're full of shit.
As a conservative, I would gladly stand up for your right to speak your mind freely, as long as you weren't insighting a riot, or interfering with other's rights. This is where I feel SCOTUS messed up on the Westboro Baptist Church decision...yes, they had a right to protest, but they were interfering with other peoples rights to hold a private funeral.
Calling BS here. I've seen a few TED talks, and don't know WTF you're talking about. Please point to what makes them in any way elitist, or in an echo chamber.
As a manager who's done plenty of hiring, I'd say you're pretty much spot on...esp. wrt large companies. It's hard to get someone by HR who doesn't have a four year degree, and if I can, the starting labor grade is typically based upon 2 yrs of exp = 1 yr of college. Even if I personally know that you can walk on water, it would be a battle. As for playing well with others, if you can't, I don't care if you can walk on water, you'll never get an offer. We work in teams, and if you're going to piss off the team, you're going to end up being a pain in my ass, so don't bother.
If you ask the average 40+ish former UAW worker if they are willing to learn to program for a job, they'd likely slap you. I recall a recent national program, 20-20, 60 Minutes, or some such, doing just that, and the response, is typically that they just don't want a sit down job. While it's a stereotype, it's based in fact, and some old dogs just refuse to learn new tricks. That isn't to say that they shouldn't be given the opportunity.
Having learned the metric system in Detroit public schools in the 60s, I'm amazed that we've never been able to get all the lingering Imperial system out of the way. I now wonder if it will even happen in my lifetime.
War was never declared. The Korean War was not authorized by Congress. President Truman committed American troops in Korea in 1950 under the United Nations Participation Act of 1945
6 under construction...1 active. This doesn't include all of the other subs they've built. "Based upon", doesn't mean useless or obsolete. Look at the U.S. fleet of B52s and U2s...those are 50s based.
They are built inside fucking mountains and there are not enough MOAB's in stock to take them all out even if that thing can do it.
That doesn't mean a damn thing. If the artillery is shooting, then the location is known and America has plenty of accurate firepower to throw back and quickly take out their positions. Being inside mountains is great for defense but lousy for attack.
Tell us how many boots we have on the ground in ROK, and how many of those are actual warfighters...not pencil pushers, cooks, secretaries, etc. I'll wait for you to come back with something reliable to back up your dumb statement above.
a conventional war between north and south korea would end very swiftly in defeat for the north...
Possibly, but not before millions die from artillery rounds hitting the south. And you're likely underestimating the simplicity of wiping out a military that is in very mountainous terrain, with many bunkers. The north is very adept at tunnel digging...I've seen a couple that were found, having been to the DMZ a few times.
The word "and" is a conjunction.

Maslow, what happened to your hierarchy?
So, when are they releasing you?

Is that an accurate figure, or one you pulled from an orifice? What I know is only anecdotal evidence.
Military pilots follow orders. Talented engineers follow the money.
Then tell us where most airline pilots come from.
BUT, now you have the power to lift your TWO Teslas!
I'd rather have them fondled.

And just how many ugly people have you watched masturbate?

When one or both parties are unwilling to compromise violence is likely inevitable
This is why there is so much domestic violence. Don't get married!

So, you're expecting the 9th Circuit to say that it's a ban on Hindu immigration? I wouldn't be surprised given their track record.

Ya know, we're still at war with Iraq. Legally anyway...
Really? When was war actually declared...legally?

Yeah, I believe 2010 popular mechanics. Seriously??? Artillery isn't rocket science, it's simple.
And there are other threats... http://nationalinterest.org/fe...
But I agree with you, NK's rulers are ultimately rational actors. Depraved, murderous, maybe even psychopathic, but certainly rational.
I'd call it survival. If they gave up power, they'd be executed, either by trial, or mobs.
