I'd like to suggest that people not jump to conclusions. My own knee-jerk reaction was that it's a silly idea. But, as you suggest, I think it's a good idea for us to try and experiment with it. We'll certainly need to do something for future generations. Also, there are several ways to implement this experiment, so we shouldn't necessarily jump to conclusions if the first attempt doesn't prove successful.
So, you're going to let the comments of some color your view of everyone on the other side of the political spectrum? That's just flat out stupid. There are plenty of assholes (on both sides). Please don't be one of them.
" there have been a rash of barber, bookstore, coffee shop, etc. closings in what's a fairly metropolitan area"
Um, sure there have, but are you putting the blame on the correct source. It's difficult for smalltime barbershops, and coffee shops to compete with the likes of Haircuttery, and Starbucks. As for bookstores, how does a bricks & mortar compete with Amazon?
"Residential areas are created so that people can be part of a community that shares a common interest in the quality of living in that place"
If you live in some areas like Washington DC metro, it's rare that people know many of their neighbors. I've lived in my home since '02, and can only tell you the names of the owners of a few. If my kid hadn't played with neighbor kids, I'd likely know fewer. It's a transient area, and people head to work in the dark, and come home when it' dark, and try to catch up on the weekends. And, while you might say it's just me, I hear the same from many cow-orkers.
Maybe we shouldn't get distracted from the fact that this is not AGW related instead of jumping right to that conclusion. http://www.npr.org/sections/th...
This is not AGW related. There are many sources saying so. I know it's easy for us all to jump to that conclusion because of how frequently it's argued here. http://www.npr.org/sections/th...
"Just remove the shitty food from your diet as quick as possible."
So, "shitty food" means different things to different people. YMMV, but I happen to like the taste of some fast food, and choose to continue stimulating my pleasure center. No, not that one. At 58 yrs old, with no major health issues, I'd much rather enjoy my food than eat tofu and rice cakes, because at this point, I've probably only got another ten to twenty years, and why the fuck should I have to put up with eating food that tastes like plaster.
" The vegans I know all seem to have emotional problems as well."
I'd like to suggest that many had those problems prior to becoming vegans, and made that change because being a vegan makes you a special snowflake, drawing attention to yourself at every shared meal. Now, just to be clear, I'm not saying ALL vegans.
Pretty much in agreement with the parent here...

Five Thirty Eight did a good article on this a while back.

As a "righty", let me say bravo sir.
And if/when it becomes illegal you'll be in possession of contraband. But maybe you don't care.
And good luck getting it through TSA.
Oh bullshit. The checks and balances built into the American political system seem to be working just fine.
HRC campaign fail
FTFY. As if she and the DNC didn't know how the system works. She didn't set foot in Wisconsin...why?

You're off topic. This isn't AGW related.
http://www.npr.org/sections/th...
Please google just about any article on it. It's not AGW in this case.

http://www.npr.org/sections/th...
And just about every other article you can google on this. And stop calling me Kellyanne.
Exactly, all the kneejerk responders blaming AGW need to take the (ice)chip off their shoulder on this on.

If a chunk of ice breaks off and nobody from an extinct species is there to hear it, did the climate actually change?
In this case, no. http://www.npr.org/sections/th...

For most people, English is a foreign language.
But what about non-Americans?
Myth? You do realise the whole NSA/Snowden spying and torture thing occurred under Republican watch yeah?
Which administration was in charge in 2013? Republican watch?

Yeah, and there's a strong correlation between people who breath, and people who die. Please stop breathing, and save yourself!
+1 Bravo!
There are 3 other sides to a pyramid. You do realize those are all vegetables, right?
Um, no. Just flat out, no.
