In my experience, the real problem is just that people don't seem to know that any viable option exists." I have to disagree. People download crap like Kazaa and media players and stuff either 1) because their friends tell them it's "cool" or 2) because stuff ceases to work with the version they have (as happened with many streaming media sources and WMP7). People haven't migrated from IE not out of ignorance, but out of *lack of need*. If it works for them, it's good; they don't care *how* much space it takse, or *how* big of a download it is. Fact of the matter is, most, if not all, of the content the average Joe user will visit renders properly on IE, so why get anything else? I'm positive most people have at least *heard* of Netscape. Find me a site that the AVERAGE user would visit on IE that doesn't render properly and I'll eat my hat.

Actually, many aspects of Solaris *are* pretty different. I have a copy of Solaris 8 x86 sitting here that I installed once and could never get the hang of. I would've loved that book.

It's, for one, a...different process to access a console locally, and I don't mean a "This Host" ("This Host":Solaris::XTerm:Linux) window, I mean, no GUI. Quite a few system tasks that seemed basic I couldn't quite figure out...I can't remember specifics but it was complicated.

Also, people (computer-illiterate or otherwise) feel better knowing that the book was written for *their OS*, not a generic category, myself included.

OpenWindows is a whole-other world compared to Gnome :)...is it still included?

Maybe some people can't figure out how to actually USE GnuPG. I, for one, struggled with it for hours and eventually gave up. GPG is NOT for the average user. And I'm NOT an illiterate.

Uhh, sorry man, but that's just not true. Any crash is basically roots in Windows. One task should not cause an entire system to fail; I thought we learned that with MacOS Classic and Win9x. On any real OS (I hate to use that phrase, but you gotta admit, it's true.), tasks are NOT allowed to crash the system. As evidence you can take the *nix'es: they can run for months, even years, and not crash, even if their individual applications crash. My iBook running OSX 10.2 has been running for 4 months now, despite several software errors (which all, curiously, came from Microsoft Office v.X). I can't say that about my Win2k box, it's only been up 2 days.

I'm confused (as you probably noticed from the subject :) ; Is the RIAA sueing (sp?) file *downloaders* or file *sharers*? And are they only sueing those who download/share copyrighted music, or are they going for the whole enchilada and sueing *all* sharers? Like, can I download independent music/stuff not governed by the RIAA?

I run Windows 2000 Advanced Server on a machine of mine, and it constantly BSOD's (especially when using VirtualPC...don't ask, I have my reasons). The hardware is all supported, no conflicts, etc. And yes, VirtualPC is installed correctly. No other OS crashes for me on this box, just Windows. Explain that?

For reference, the error is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and yes, I have SP3.
