I got one of them snazzy 100Mbs lines to my apartment building. Competition among companies to sign up dialup convertors has brought rapid service upgrades. 26Mbs ADSL is the common offering now when 12Mbs was the standard only 6 months ago (http://www.bbapply.com/details.html). I loth the day I have to move back to The States and sign up for broadband.
Alot of people have been pointing out that the 50-100Mbs won't be all that fast in 2010. Then other people say they probably planned ahead to make it easily upgradable. The question is, who's going to pay for the upgrade? If it's taxpayer funded I'm sure people won't want to keep forking over their dough. Competition is healthy in these matters. It's benefitted me in Japan and would probably benefit South Korea as well. Hell, any competition would benefit North Korea:)
I always thought personal web sites were a great way to share news and photos of the family with other family members and friends. But as soon as you post one awkward or funny photo, some dweeb finds it and posts it to www.major-losers.com or some other site where people post normal photos but nit-pick them to death. I'm scared to even get my picture taken now for fear I may blink and look wierd and then people I will never know will laugh at me.
Nooooo there all gonna laugh at-choooo!
Ignorance is an excuse where it would take 3-4 years of learning about IT to be aware of what's going on under that case.
3-4 years to learn how to run a virus scanner? They don't have to know how everything about the box. Again with the car analogy, you don't have to be a mechanic to drive, just know things like filling the tank, checking oil pressure etc... Even if you don't know how to do that, you take it to someone who sat through a bunch of mechanic training to do it.
Yes it is a apples and oranges comparisons in many ways. You can wipe out serveral generations of family with a car, but you an also wipe out the savings of generations of family with a computer. That is another extreme example but it can potentially happen. And you don't have to pass a test to buy a car, just to legally drive it. There's plenty of unlicensed people out there causing accidents and they're held responsible for it (if caught of course). Nothing bad happended to this guy but it's only a matter of time before something bad happens to someone. The internet age is still young and as more people and services move the the net, the potential for damges increases.
I think it's time that people took some sort of responsibility for their net surfing. Situtations like this will pop up from this point on. People don't have to know how a computer works, but they should be able to run a virus scanner or take it to someone who does. If I notice that my car's brakes aren't working that well, I can do one of three things. I can A: repair the brakes or B: take my car to someone who can to fix the brakes or C: drive around as if nothing's wrong. If I run over somebody because my brakes don't work, I'm pretty sure I can get sued because I'd be responsible for my car.
You can do quite a bit of damage with a computer that's connected to the internet nowadays. People should be required to take responsibility for the health of that computer.
I did a search for "yahoo" on msn.com to see if it still have you one result that said something like "wouldn't you rather use microsoft's site." I don't remember what it used to say exactely. If anyone know's what I'm talking about, please post. Anyways, my top five results were:

Number 2 is for MSN!!! How can you trust a company with a search engine that gives itself a top rating when it has absolutely nothing to do with what you're searching for?
By the way, the link for the MSN site was dead anyways:P
I'm curious to see what sort of fine/time this guy gets for his crime. Japan is notorious for its inconsistant sentences. One guy will get 3years for murdering his daughter while some guy (usually a foreigner) get's like ten years for trying to smuggle in 0.000001grams of marajiuana. So if this logic pervails, he should get 35 to life for this one.

What's this got to do with SCO???
Mars would have to be about 5 feet away for me to spot it with all the artificle light where I live in Tokyo.
When asked where I want to go for my vacation coming up, all I can say is, "Somewhere away from the city where I can see the night sky."
with my fax machine. It's not nearly as cool though.

Minitel is trusted not just because it is an integral part of French life, but because its closed network is guaranteed virus-free and hacker-proof
Both famous last words.
