Well, Visa and Mastercard are moving over to smart credit cards - with the embedded ICC - so the Chameleon Card will not only have to produce the right magnetic strip, but also the right applications to the ICC... and you can't just stick a smart card into a reader and duplicate it. BTW, anybody else notice that the team members of Chameleon contain more than one Unpublished name... so if some of the people behind it don't want their name public, what faith can you put in their product.
The phone's unique code is also found on the box that it came it. But lets be honsest, how many people keep the box... and if they don't do they note the number before throwing it away. The same applies to the invoice. It would help if the phone manufacturers made a bigger deal of telling the user to note their phone's serial number so it can be blocked when stolen - sure, it won't help you, but at least its then useless for the thief, so in theory theft should reduce.
There are actually two serial numbers floating around with GSM. One number is associated with the SIM, the other with the physical phone itself... therefore, its possible to track calls based on either of these parameters.
Of course, it would help if the GSM operators actually did something with the phone serial number... in theory, if your phone is stolen, you tell them your phone's serial number and they can block it being used (no matter what SIM is subsequently put in there). But most people don't even know what their phone's serial number is (there is some code you can enter to display it, but I forget).
