Your right about the history. Actually at Purdue University, they have a class called the Philosophy of Western Religions that cover the roots of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. They are also often called the Abrahamic Faiths, becuase they believe in the God of Abraham. Linguistically Allah actually mean "The God". As in the one and only God.
But your point about the hostality is wrong. Actually throughout most of history, the presecuted Jewish people found safety with the Muslims. One example being the Jews who left Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, fleed to Muslim run areas. The "conflict" started after one of the world wars, where the then province of "Palestine" in the Ottoman empire was given to Brittian as a Mandate (similar to a colony). They intern had promised that they would make it a "Homeland" for the Jewish people. Tons of Jewish people from Europe migrated there, too many people, not enough jobs, that led to civil unrest, the Brits left the mess, and the Jewish people declared it a sovern country. Then every Arab country around them attacked and subsequenty lost.
So yeah, religion isn't really at the core of the conflict. Its politics. Yes people may use religion to rally people to do immoral acts on both sides, but haven't tyrents always used religion for their evil purposes?
Your right. As a reaction of what they did, we are voluntarily giving up our "way of life". The freedoms and due process that our laws provide are being bypassed, and people think its un-patriotic to say anything about it.
What I don't understand is why it took so long for people to realize this. When Bush started this, everyone stayed silent. Only recently did the Democrats come out and begin talking about these issues...
My parents moved to this country to get away from opressive governments only to find that we too are going the way of those governments abroad...
I hope people wake up and get involved with the political system before its too late.
Speeding Limits have nothing to do with Saving People. Actually they were first really encorced during the OPEC Oil Embargo way back when.
The purpose then was to reduce gasoline consumption. Soon after that, many of them were increased but not to their original levels. Why you ask. Because they became a good source of revenue for small counties.
Hasn't anyone noticed, all the speed traps are out in the middle of nowhere, and usually occur soon after you enter a poor small county?
Cable companies already charge us an arm and a leg. If we get rid of broadcast television, we'll have even less competition. Cable will start costing 100 per month, and I'm sure the Dish companies will follow suit.
The only way I'd be ok with this is if they forced the cable companies to give basic and extended basic for $5/mo.
I'm also American and I have to say I agree. I mean hell, regardless of how much security we put into place, things will still slip into the cracks. There will be possible holes in the system etc.
Its like security on the internet. All you can do is make it so hard and time consuming to crack, that the person gives up, but if you have the resources (a large linux cluster for example etc) and time you can break any encription.
I think what the events of 911 showed is that we really didn't use the security we already had in place. Now that has changed. What more can we do? Should we have to change our way of life out of fear?
Dude Culture and Problem solving?
I'm sorry, but Indian has the largest collection of Engineers outside of the western world. Because of them and the Arabs we have the base 10 number system that makes math so easy for us. And they dont have our culture.
Its not culture, its resources. We are spoiled by the fact that we've had computers forever. They probably never see computers until they enter college. This has nothing to do with culture.
The fact is the software industry is the exception. For every other type of Engineering, there Engineers are probably on par if not better than the average engineer going to the average American University. If you look at most of the papers in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering that are significant, they came from graduate students who grew up in those "different cultures" and have that "different way of living". In fact most Engineering Departments have more of these people from these "different cultures" than they have White and Asian Americans.
Culture is irrelevent. Ways of living is irrelevant. Lack of resources is there problem, and the reason we (as Americans) are ahead.
I hope that makes sence:) Nothing againt you as a person, but I really think people need to think a little before we just chalk stuff off to culture or race.

Republican? Wait, aren't you suppose to be for smaller government?
