Foreign to what? The .com domain is international and does not belong to the USA any more or less that it belongs to Brazil.

The fact that the .us domainis not used for anything meaningful does not make the .net, .org and .com domains any more american.

  5. Bruce Schneier on On Choosing Encryption ... · · Score: 2

Bruce Schneier has written the excellent book "Applied Cryprography". Many a programmer has their knowledge about cryptography from that book.

Since he is also the person behind Blowfish, and that algorithm is described nicely in his book, it becomes a natural choice for many people who has read the book. It is also know to be unencumbered with patent problems.

I would say the main reason for choosing a algorithm is that it is secure (have no known attacks against it) and is well know to the programmer. Because of "Applied Cryptography" Blowfish then becomes a natural choice. For other it would be 3DES.

  6. OpenSource is more than available sourcecode on Does 'Open Source' Have To Mean 'Free'? · · Score: 1

OpenSource or Free software generally means that you have the possibility to modify the source code and redistribute it. This is what the GPL esnures.

You could combine GPL (or some other license like BSD or a proprietory license) with a non disclosure agreement.

Solaris is an example where you can get the sourcecode, but it is not OpenSource or Free software.

1- Commercial off the shelf : I dont know how big a user base you'll be dealing with, but since you seem to be alone, I'll assume under 250 users. The cheapest "helpdesk" commercial solution you can get with web based problem reporting goes around 5000$. And you'll have to setup your own MS SQL / MS NT / IIS to support it.

I know of at least one system where the entire system can be rented and is running on a server provided by the producer. It is called eJournal. I have used it for some time at work, and it is a real neat solution.

Check out their webpage at http://www.ejournal.no/. I do not know anything about their pricing.

One wonders how much pressure the Norwegian Government has received to do this, if any at all, and if they have, then from who?

I believe that this is a decission by the state attorney (Ms Inger Marie Sunde) that a crime might have been committed. There is no reason to believe that there has been any pressure from any governement, but the MPAA has asked the Norwegian police to investigate.

This is how it works in Norway as well. The person responsible for the criminal charges in this case is statsadvokat ("State attorney") Inger Marie Sunde at Økokrim (the Central unit for investigation and indictment of economical and ecological crimes).

I believe "Cosmic Top Secret" is considered to be above Top Secret. CTS is as far as I know used by NATO for information that is Top Secret in several countries or something like that.
