I have never heard anyone American use the term "burgled", except my sister--and she wanders around calling everything bloody, putting things in her car's boot, and buying petrol.
most intelligent companies realize that employees often perform BETTER following vacations. Beaten down workers may put in the hours, but if you're using your brain, you get less out of it. Hell, I sometimes come up with work ideas randomly while on vacation.
This is something I've been harping on for a while, I think we might be on the cusp of a paradigm change. Most people don't understand that roughly 80 % of the labor cuts in the US ( read this recently, can't remember where, sorry for no citation) are from increased efficiency, with only 20% or so due to outsourcing.
It sounds like the guy is more mad that they're only working three hours a day, as opposed to the pay rates. I'd be curious to see his response if someone said "we can guarantee 8 hours/day"
Did you really just try to pull the "US evil, North Korea sane" card? I applaud your skills. Please, for your next trick, tell me why Hitler wasn't such a bad guy. THAT would be brilliant bit of work.
Here's a simple solution, and Target in California does this: Instead of CHARGING for bags, give a DISCOUNT for not taking a bag. It's a silly little thing, but offering people an incentive rather than a punishment goes a long way.
The last batman was awful. They should have built a larger batmobile to drive through the plot holes. Was ANYONE surprised by Bane being the kid? I know I wasn't.
I'm watching this go down at my work. THey've put in one charger for an executive. what do you think will happen when fifty people show up asking for power? They will say "um, tough".
I used to have a 67 Camaro, drum brakes all around, front and back Stopping that thing at significant speed required jamming your foot into the floor until you were sure you were going to shove your feet through, ala' Fred Flintstone. If the difference between having assisted braking and not having it is like that versus any standard modern car, then I'd consider it broken.
Along with that monopoly is a government mandated delivery to all sort of out of the way places. Like delivering letters to extremely isolated communities. What does it cost to send a letter via Fedex?
People always say this: "Oh, I could do without the mail", but watch what would happen if it disappeared. You'd need to mail a letter at least a few times a year, trust me, at some point. And Fedex or UPS will be more than willing to do it. For $20, after you drive it down to their office across town, based in the old post office. At which point you'll say "WTF?? The post office was only 50 cents!" ang gripe about inflation.
Yeah, um, no. There actually tend to be a fair amount of left/right proponents on here, with a stronger representation of libertarians. At least this is how I take it based on comments. There was a poll a while back, showed an actual strong tilt to the left, so I"m guessing the right is just more active in posting.
I think the reason there is such a focus on american citizens is a legal one: American Laws apply to American Citizens. You can't make a US law apply to , say, a Pakistani. If Canada was writing this stuff too, they'd be focusing on Canadian Citizens.
Shit, there were people trotting out McCain, big white war hero's place of birth because he was born in the Panama canal zone. So yes, if it's there, people will ask.
If Bush was in, we'd be giving him even more shit for it. Bad policy is bad policy, regardless of who's responsible. It's just the guy in office who gets to take the flak or the accolades. And stop bringing race into it.
The problem with this is how or who defines "high level ranking al-Qa'ida", and what the process is for that. As an analogy, I put forth a law that states murder is a crime punishable by death, which many would find reasonable. I can follow up by personally defining murder as anyone who kills rats, with no other input.
This only applies if it's a temporary misfortune or issue. In which case I completely agree with you. We need to be careful when supplying this aid to make sure it doesn't become a continual thing, however. Otherwise it's simply a drain on society/the economy. This is completely ignoring morality, of course.
Safety nets should be, by their nature, extremely limited. Just like a net: if you want a permanent structure, you build a building. A net's just there to catch you for a short term.
This is why you keep a supply of cash on hand. Fiscal emergencies can be prepared for like natural disasters. Just imagine having to get along with out banks for a week and prep for it.
In some ways, isn't this like paying kidnappers? Sure, it's cheaper to pay than deal with it now, but doesn't this just encourage similar behavior in the future?
This.

Taxes and government are not bad. The proper argument is just over the levels of each. But saying they're bad is like saying oxygen is bad.

1500 euros/week for a minimum wage job??? 42 euros/hour? I want that job!
Yeah, um, no.

So , essentially, you agree with the parent who said the anti-war people don't complain because their guy is in power. Thanks.

I just KNEW those UPS guys were up to something...
