In term of specifications, most tablet pc models come with the minimum of 12" screens and 40gb hard disks. So your requirements pretty much encompasses every tablet pc out there.
What you might want to consider beforehand are the following:
1. Convertible (with keyboard) or slate (external keyboard). I personally use a convertible model, since my typing is still waay faster than scribbling.
2. Connectivity. Do you need bluetooth built in ? 802.11G or B?
3. Battery life. Depending on how many power points there are in your lecture theatre, this is likely a big concern if you plan to take lecture notes.
4. Processor power. Tablet PCs range from 800mhz to 1.6mhz. if you plan on running hefty simulations, etc., you might want a rethink.
Finally, ask yourself if you -really- need a tablet pc. Remember that you are paying a premium for being able to scribble on your laptop, at the same time forfeiting some screen quality and performance.
To back up this new push to promote a more customer-friendly Microsoft, Ballmer promised that the company would âoeincrease our advertising budget significantly for all our audiences."
Huh? Since when do expensive advertising campaigns make a more customer-friendly company?
I think its more targeted towards those who lead 'active lifestyles' as with their previous 5xxx series . Those who exercise regularly at the gym or outdoors would find the dust/water resistant feature, ruggedness, calorie calculator app and FM receiver a great feature set.
Just because there is a calorie calculator doesn't make it targeted towards women. Both male and female athletes keep track of their calories usage vs intake for optimal performance in sports. Besides, IMHO, this phone design hardly qualifies as 'cute'.
I was looking around for the battery life specs (I couldn't get to the specs page on the Philips website).. and came across this page http://www.remotecentral.com/wn030403.htm
Found out that its got 5 days of standby lifetime.. not too fantastic, but with a convenient dock its acceptable I guess. But the second new feature of the firmeware upgrade said Reduced start-up time...
Hell..ANY startup time for a remote control isn't going to be good..
I am in Singapore right now, and I'm pretty much disturbed that there have been cases of quarantine orders being broken here. Knowing that not everyone will be sensible enough to just obey the quarantine orders, I think the webcam move is appropriate. However, it seems that using the webcam to ensure home quarantine isn't too popular with the/. crowd.
The CDC's SARS information page doesn't seem to clearly state how quarantine will be done in the US. It just says:
Quarantine, in contrast, applies to people who have been exposed and may be infected but are not yet ill. Separating exposed people and restricting their movements is intended to stop the spread of that illness. Quarantine is medically very effective in protecting the public from disease.
My question is this, what better way is there to enforce home quarantine? How will the US CDC do it? Cos offhand, I can't think of any other convenient way to monitor and enforce a home quarantine.
Windows piracy is definitely bad news for OSS. However, not to such a great extent in this case of Windows Server 2003, which won't particularly appeal to the average joe who's already got a pirated copy of Windows XP.
"The founder of Seattle-based Highlift Systems, Edwards proposes a carbon-nanotube space elevator: a ribbon 62,000 miles long, 3 feet wide, and thinner than the paper your thumb is pressed against right now. The elevator would stretch high into the heavens, allowing easy transport from Earth, launching spacecraft, new industries, even tourists - at a fraction of today's costs. And he says he can be well under way in a decade, ushering in a new era of space exploitation"
A similar system in Singapore is used for the bus and rail system. On the bus, the full fare is deducted at entry, and balance refunded to you when you exit. If you forget to tap the card on the reader before you exit, the amount you were supposed to have been credited back is forfeit. Excellent way to increase revenues without actually increasing fares.

So how does that explain the chaos from Code Red?
