Sure, but you don't always need to talk to the remote server -- If you can catch a hash of a password in transit you can crack the password locally and only submit the correct one to the server when you're sure you've got it.
Yes. Just because the guy sitting next to you has access to the same information you do doesn't mean you should give him your password (unless the entire system is read-only)
If you're still not sure why this is a problem, try it, and when you have to explain to your boss why "you" emailed tubgirl to the entire company, you'll probably understand.
More likely they'll come after you for releasing the source to their product under a license which was not authorized by the company, and hold you responsible for their "loses" (Calculated by the samn folks the RIAA uses, no doubt)
Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't you have a cause of action against both the old employer (loss of income) and the new employer (wrongful termination)?
The sandboxing functionality is, in my opinion, the most important, and likely the excuse they'll use in court when VMWare tries to go after MS for integrating something like this into the OS.
FreeBSD isn't listed in the options, but all those options really do is preset a bunch of configuration settings. You can install whatever OS you like, the majority of what worked under Connectix works fine under MSVPC too.
It's easy to have a good laugh when hearing about someone's invisible friend
Yes, yes it is.
...what you thought were decent people are advocating killing others...
Perhaps it's more a testimony to your poor ability to judge character -- That doesn't sound like the definition of "decent people" that I use.
on the basis of what their invisible friends think about one another.
That's sociopathy (and possibly schizophrenia if you hear the voices)
Why is it the voices always tell people to kill? Why don't the voices ever tell you to make delicious cookies or to volunteer your time to a good cause?
Religion is very very serious.
All the more reason to laugh. Until religion gets a sense of humour, we're all doomed.
My mother sees the whole Israel vs Arabs conflict in this light. "Well God promised them that land". It's scary
It's people like your mother that make me wonder if freedom of speech is really worth it -- Now if she could produce a notarized record of said promise (or even a contract signed by an arms length witness) that would be different, but unfortunately god never consults legal council when making land deals.
Copyrights non-transferable? That will pretty much kill off the modern economic world as we know it.
Selling the copyright to your work is essentially what keeps programmers, authors, artists, and anyone involved in any form of creation creativity employed.
I've never grasped why inheritance should be taxed though, can you fill me in on the logic there? Why should I be punished by the gov't for dying?
However three lefts do.
1) Cut the cable
2) File a false police report
3) ???
4) Profit!
Anyone know what step 3 is?
Better yet, leave the bolt cutters and "lose" the undamaged lock.
Of course your finger prints are on the bolt cutter, you picked them up. Dumb thing to do, sure, but it's not a crime.
(Filing a false police report is STILL a crime -- But that's another issue)
$1500 is about a third of my laptop. What about the rest?
Luckily they probably don't want access to your data either.

But just imagine what you could do with a beowulf cluster of ignorant slashdot readers....
Nothing?
Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but that's only $1500 kW/h on the first day.
Assuming it lasts more then a day, wouldn't the effective $ per kW/h price drop over time?
Damnit, now we have to get FireSomething ported into ThunderSomething.
I'll begin seeding as soon as it finishs downloading.
Damnit I wish Microsoft couple put MD5 hashes of files... *sigh*
How do you figure?
/. does not delete a thing, so /. is in a different ballpark completely.
Per the article, Yahoo is only liable because they delete some posts.
Hell, just because the article was just posted to /. today doesn't mean it's new to /. either.
Can anyone explain to me why the "Exempt" status exists (other then gov't corruption and pandering to corporate interests, that is)?
I don't get it -- If you put in extra hours, why should you be compensated if you're a plumber but not a programmer?

They'll just assume you have no thoughts, and as a result you'll be a model employee

VPC runs OS/2 just fine.
Microsoft doesn't provide support (read: technical support) for running Linux under MSVPC, but it works fine.
So you overcharge, then when you get called on it you provide shitty service?
So? Many of us are allowed to surf on company machines during off-hours.
Did "A" (in this case) buy the rights?
