If you're using 3dsmax, you should look into the pdf by Gary Davis. I haven't read the whole thing, but he gives excellent insights to developing one, including the great advantages and common pitfalls of them.
Google for it. He emailed it to me, but I think he has it back up on his server.
First of all, due to the lack of graphical hardware advances it has been difficult to keep thinking out of the box. So you'll see the same game engine rehashed from time to time. Although Super Mario bros for the 8-bit, i think were mostly different engines, had to for the different effects with the limited hardware.
However, even if they were the same engines you can't knock them either way, they did/are make/making a lot of money. There are way more people who don't care, they want to see the same gameplay in a different experience.
PS I do agree with the pokemon thing, i don't play, but i wish they would price them a little lower.
Yeh, it would be nice if AOL would allow the option to control the content of the blogging down service (make it blatant - like a button that says "GET RID OF THE CRAP"), it takes me about 5 minutes to dial-up to AOL and get to a website like Slashdot... which is ridiculous especially since I do not usually go online at popular times.
Thank God recently I've been able to convince mom to change to broadband, cancelling AOL (btw AOL has called several times after cancellation, to beg for us to come back)
But back to the point, I've always remained loyal to Nintendo's consoles even when I know the competitors have something more powerful under the hood, but if I boot up the new mario for whatever new nintendo system, and see an "Exciting Offer" to buy discounted socks at Old Navy, I am going to flip.
