The BBC science show Horizon is running a show tomorrow night in the UK about what the Presidential candidates think of science and what their policies are. Doesn't bode well since I found out that Palin is a creationist.
That is your opinion, of course. But then again, you weren't there. I truly despise a working environment that treated its workforce to a enforced sauna, expected unpaid overtime all the time, as and when, whose code documentation was poor and asked for code that was physically impossible in the timeframe. Plus, when I was off ill (with a genuine illness, I was put on anti-depressants, in addition to the vitiligo), the company phoned up my doctor and demanded to know when my sicknote expired. No other company I have worked for has ever acted so shabbily.
Fair enough. I have worked in some secure locations (alright, military ones), with code pads on the doors, armed guards at the gates, bars on the windows, taped phone calls etc., but even my experiences at the place recounted in my article heightens paranoia to disturbing new levels.
He was bloody lucky. I got my PhD from York University (England), and they got so pissed off with people taking ages to write up and submit that they issued a decree that you must submit within 4 years of starting.
How is this news? The Guinness Book of Records has had this listed for bloody decades, also indicating that the tribe have a word for "they are alike."
I used to work for a company called Autonomy, based in Cambridge. I found them to be a bunch of bullies, more keen on profits than the workforce and its comfort and rights. I put an article on my website about their work practises, and faced the onslaught by their legal teams. But the worst part when their legal muscle, Allen Overy, bullied my ISP to not only take the article down, but rescind my web and email access. The worst part is that this happened in January 2007, and I am still being charged by BT for webspace and internet access which doesn't exist. I have tried everything I know of and I can't even get BT to admit there is a problem, never mind get a refund. Its quite a tally of cash, and even my credit card company can't get the money back as this would require some admission by BT that they are at fault and that they acted without consulting their user (me!) first. Fortunately, my original article has found a new home here.
My own website, admittedly very modest, shows that Firefox 3 has only a 3% share, but it has grown more rapidly than any other browser I have seen since I started collating statistics (February 2007): the numbers are here: http://www.paullee.com/computers/index.html and were only updated 2 days ago. Funnily enough, my logs show that there are people still using MSIE 4, MSIE 5... as well as Windows 95, and Win3.1 ! Upgrade, guys, upgrade!
PS Sorry for the small sizes of the graphs. Gnumeric was having a bad day:(
I'd have thought that with the amount of idle time on telescopes (both professional and amateur), it would be a simple matter to rig captured time lapse images and transit them to a central server, to compare the locations of observed anomalies with those held from historic records, to verify old data and find new NEOs. Seems like a great distributed computing project to me.
Why not have these scanners linked directly to your doctor's surgery? Then you can phone them up, something like this:
"Hello, I'd like to book an appointment with Dr.Hu for next week please."
"No, need, Mr.Zen, you only have two days to live. We got your airport scans."
I have written my own book, and I too worry about piracy. There is no guarantee that once the ebook is emailed or sent out on CD, it won't be distributed illegally, cutting down on the profits. How can you stop a pdf file from being distributed illegally? You can't. Of course, if you were to go the "traditional" route, and have a book bound, that would eat into your profits, but would deter pirates; who would want to spend ages at a scanner or a photocopier copying a whole bound book? Or, you could go even more traditional, and do what I didn't do, which is get your book published by a publishing house. But the money you get out of them unless you are an established author is pitiful; based on what another author receives, its about 6%. The publishing house takes most of the money. No, the odds are stacked against ebook authors, and even more highly stacked against self-publishers. The fact that magazines, google books etc. won't even look at your book unless you have an ISBN (which are sold at extortionate prices and in blocks of 10!) doesn't help.

But Chrome is still at a beta (?) stage isn't it... give it (well, the Windows version anyway) a chance!
If you're interested, my own browser/OS stats can be found on my webpage here

Thanks my friend. Two years on, and they're still treating me as a liar.
Look at http://www.paullee.com/computers/index.php and follow the link in the second bullet point. The f*ckers are trying legal tricks to shut me up.
Found it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/4337162.stm (Reminds me of a joke I heard. Why do the Irish smell so bad? So blind people can hate them too) Oh yes, heres more bad news too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cambridgeshire/4312393.stm

Lets help bring these cowboys down!

...must we sift through all those old tapes?
From my ebook, about a certain Mr.Molony: "[He] is already known on at least one Titanic forum, where his immature antics, personal vituperations and smug inability to debate politely had forced the foreclosure on many discussions on the Californian subject. For example, http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/discus/messages/6584/100461.html?1132189270 and http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/discus/messages/6584/100215.html for the infamous âoeelephants in the living roomâ thread, http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/discus/messages/6584/95010.html and http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/discus/messages/6584/94725.html For a âoeresearch articleâ on a non-Californian matter, see http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/item/5407/ and http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/item/5041/ but rebuttals are at http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/item/5400/ and http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/item/5409/ " Rather like the message posted by the OP, this individual won't admit when he is wrong, and changes the subject too.
Dr.Mitchell's beliefs have been known about for years! He even participated in an ESP experiment (with Zener cards I think?) on the way to the moon.

. In short, I had no rights at all.

And do you really think Bush will be tried of any of the indictments? As head of state, he'll be found innocent thank you very much indeed.
