I've been running Firefox for four months with "Noscript" installed. Javascript itself is being abused far too much to bypass popup blockers and generally screw around with a browser in a way that shouldn't be allowed. If I want a website to mess with me, I have to whitelist it first. It's annoying, especially around ecommerce sites, but I have peace of mind.
One disc that will go into both old DVD players and new HD-DVD players. That means only one production line, one less UPC on the shelf for retailers. This is a really really good idea. Half the annoyance of selling things in a high tech store is that there are arbitrary differences (I want a black ipod nano!) that cause stock problems.
Reducing the number of items on the shelf is going to make retailers very happy//Works at London Drugs in Canada (we sell computers o_O)///Stealing slashies from Fark FTW
Have a look at Melissa Scott's The Jazz for a fine sci-fi example of this effect in action. We're simply seeing the evolution of PR and marketers finally groking this "Internets"
I should have noticed red flags, someone scammed either the company or a client out of $7000 worth of money slated to go into the company coffers. Given the company had a turnaround of about $30,000 a month, I'd say no wonder I got laid off.
This happened to me this very year, not to mention they tried their hardest to forget to pay me severance, my vaction pay, any way they could cheap out.
I've always liked it when there was the option of a private or a publically run service for phones or suchnot, there are drawbacks and advantages to either system.
Ther internet isn't just HTTP, it's FTP, it's USENET and IRC, and it's beginnings in ARPANET were more than 20 years ago, so they've been predicting the death of the internet the first time people started to spam on Usenet groups.:)
The end of the internet and the descent of the gaming industry into an uncreative apocalyspe has been forseen at least 2-3 times every year for the last 20 years. It's time to accept the instability but long living state of both industries and move on with our lives.

I can't believe it but I hauled my 486 out of it's packaging a month ago, hooked it all up and it booted perfectly, faster than my current XP box.:)
The Pentium II box hasn't had a problem and my current Athlon 1.2ghz is peachy.
Although over a period of several years I've managed to corrupt Kernel32.dll on both the 486 and the Pentium 2... Boy does Windows hate not having that file.
Now where's that Radio Shack Tandy 3000, I want to code some BASIC.
