I don't hate "Microsoft", I hate ideology of Microsoft. This article is the capstone for me http://politics.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/04/ 27/2232244..on to the question at hand...
Being a Sr. Software Architect I have a professional understanding for what people want in a final product; MS doesn't deliver it. I dislike that they want to "best guess" what I want and how I want it done. I have a strong dislike that I can't kill process whenever I want. I dislike that I can't control what is and is not started at boot time. I find it frustrating that if WinAmp crashes..so does IE or Word or 19 other products that don't have anything related to them. I disagree with how MS treats the "lesser" entities. The small people that just want to get something out and make some money and roll in the great American concept of Capitalism...they can't becuase MS owns the patent on Capitalism.
If I were to continue..I'd lose what dignity I have with the./ community:) so I'm going to leave on that note.
[yes, I did overuse the word dislike.. but it's late and I'm sssleeppy]

How will this affect people such as my grandparents who use their computer only for tax/accounting purposes and aren't on a network.
Sure you can make the argument "then they wouldn't need the porch version of winblows". That's a fine and dandy argument but does that force anyone wanting to use it to be 1) on a LAN/WAN or 2) Tech-Savvy and leave those not willing out in the cold of new technologies?
How does this fit into the Chinese governments mandate posted yesterday 'The End of Naked PCs in China?' http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/04/12/12 14205
This is just another Microsoft move to control the masses. Personally, I enjoy seeing this, I think this will help Linux move forward more than Gates and his minions realize. (wishful thinking)
Somewhat amusing, today, 06.28.05 Kaplan (lead dev) has an article on/. where he talks about the next big instance. I find it very 'middle of the road' for MMORPG companies to get big and popular and simply forget about thier customer base. EQ did it, CoH has done it (DDO will never get the chance, that game is presently a trainwreck) and WoW is following along.
You know, I have played this game for a long time and really enjoyed it. But now it's turning into EQ. Kaplan and his -people- are slowly caring more and more about the "next release" and less and less about the current state of the game. It would be nice to see them fix the issue that are still open with the game as it stands.
Then again, he and McQuade might be buddies:)
First the media went after guns and an attack on the second ammendment. Now we see the same thing happening now. If Sony and all of the billion dollar companies are honestly concerned that bit-torrent is costing them money then they need to do another analysis and see that the root of the problem is Sony ( and the others ) that produce digital cameras.
I can't take hearing this crap any more, stop making digital cameras with such a high quality capacity.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
Bit torrent does steal movies, people steel movies and Sony gives them the capacity.
Not sure why this is making headlines, Microsoft has been doing this for years.
