yes, and the fact that he's giving away his e-mail address to random people is the reason that he thinks the spam filter is so innaccurate. he is getting e-mails from completely normal e-mail addresses from completely normal programs with completely normal subjects and bodies. He is counting things as spam while it is not spam.
What they should have done was make a survey where they ask what peoples needs and wants are. I use perl because I think it's the best solution for my website and it does everything that I need it to do. Other people use PHP because it's easier in certain ways. Someone make a points survey which asks questions about the persons' intelligence, personality, and needs, and that MIGHT tell them what language they should be writing in.
yes, it includes 100 years of news from the 19th century. which... if my calculations are correct... would be possible for any years between and including 1800 and 1899.
There's no way to be 100% secure with passwords and the likes, but there are some things everyone should do. 1.) don't have the same password for everything! The website admins to every site you use a password for have access to it (and no one can trust a slashdot editor!). 2.) change your password often. The more often the better. This won't always work since most people, when they get a password, will do their damage immediately... but you never know. Another advantage here is OLD websites that you visitted a long time ago may change and new administrators will have access to your password.
pretty redundant stuff, but good advice that most people are too lazy to follow.
The logic of a slashdot reader:
1. [reads link] no way
2. [clicks link] how will i be pursuaded today?
3. [reads the first sentence] "The reason is simple. The venerable FCC, created in 1934, is no longer necessary."
4. [convinced] "I have to admit that he makes some interesting points. So how about it? Should the FCC be abolished?"
5. [takes action] "i'm starting a petition!"
i know the article mentions they are using 802.16, but just out of curiosity, How many hours per week do you use wifi for computer connectivity outside your home?
So pretty much, Mac and Windows are made faster by using resources when they're not being used already. Not a genius idea, but the hard part is figuring out how to do that, which is what the article discusses.
what's funny is that the star wars program is still very alive. Star wars was not simply the missile blowing up bigger missile plan. It is just the idea that we can and should defend ourselves from the larger missiles (such as the ones that can carry nuclear warheads). "they" are still working on star wars, it's just that now they are leaning towards the laser idea.
they may have opened the source, but it is not anywhere near what you OSS developers like.
they will almost certainly NOT accept source from other people; (although they may take suggestions, i'm sure).
the purpose of this is not to make their product better by allowing the community to help, but rather to allow people to customize their own toolkits or to at least better understand what they're using.
how is the MS firewall crappy? It performs exactly as any firewall should perform.
Now, even though people usually only target windows, the advantage in XP is the system restore. If you do work for friends/family who use windows, it's the easiest fix. After you do it, be sure to tell them "don't say 'yes' or 'open' EVER" unless it is from microsoft corporation, macromedia, apple quicktime, or any number of companies you know won't put spyware or adware on your computer (i'm starting to distrust real now...)
for all you people who are saying "hooray! slashdotted with 2 posts! slashdot is cool!"... just wait about 20 seconds for it to load... it loads just fine for me (just takes a while)
Barrett pegs K-12 math and science education as the biggest threat to U.S. employment, but when pressed about U.S. kids who do well in both, attend excellent universities, but have no guarantees of good jobs when they graduate, Barrett remarks 'I don't have a solution to that one.'
That seems like a somewhat pointless addition to your news submission, theodp. I wonder why it's in there...
The first thing he "pegs" has nothing to do with the "remark" he makes. It is a threat to employment because if there aren't enough kids interested in math and science, we're screwed.
you obviously do not understand how much "evidence" the cia gathers and how reliable it is. Look at what's happened since 9/11... we've responded to every single threat and there has yet to be an attack, and that's not necessarily because we "found out"... it's more likely that this "evidence" happens way too often and rarely actually means anything.
the way you put it, it's almost like you think that bush wanted those few thousand people to die, and that he is happy about the soldiers dying. But of course, you're probably a bit more educated about politics than that.
the website has obviously taken a lot of time to create already. a week or so for the domain name to get active, add that to the "week" it's been since it was created, add that to the week or so it took to get to the point to be considered "created"... double that time since it's only a side project. If i were to create a website devoted to being anti-bush, i'd create the content before i told anyone about it, unless of course i have no content to create.
face it, we are in a much better situation right now with bush than we would be with gore.
well, if you go there, there are links to "how f'd we will be with 4 more years" and "how f'd we are right now"... but they lead to contentless pages.... figures.....

what I think would be smart would be to charge to unlimit the restrictions such as the buddy list maximum of 200 buddies, and the rate limit.

sorry, i was off by one.
It includes all the national daily and Sunday newspapers from 1801 to the present.
well there you go.

Does OOG have much more memory requirements than other formats ?
Yes.
If so, why ?
because that's the way they made it.

Google is much faster than just about anything. I wonder if that guy even knew how to use quotes or -'s

Does the survey include a statistic on who "relies on open source"?
I'd like to see that number, and I'd be surprised if it's anywhere near "9 out of 10"

of course! everyone's heard of Bali, Minnesota and Madrid, California! the best 2 places under the US of A's president's control!
get some common sense, please.

well, for one, the last major terrorist attack would not be 9/11. and it wouldn't be the one after that, either.
saddam would still be in control of iraq. the economy would have continued to go down in the 24 months directly after 9/11.
how about you tell me your version of what gore would have done and why it would be better.

the 9x series has just been renamed to the "vxxx" series. Google for Voyage 200... it's their newest qwerty calculator.
the Voyage 200 has replaced the 92 series. Much higher than "89".
There is also a TI-89 Titanium edition coming out soon.
