Just because the default (or even just an install option) is "Novice Mode" with a Windows like interface that is easy to use, doesn't mean you can't use the "Expert Mode" install and do all of the same stuff you're used to doing. That's all I would like to see, a Novice Mode option on the install that sets you up with an easy to use, familiar interface that can help you ease into Linux.
What I DO care about, is reliability and shock resistance. If anyone sells a reliable HDD that would survive 5-inch drop and still operate with all my data intact, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.
This is why I buy seagate. I transport my machine a lot, frequently in the back of pickup trucks. Last time I was moving it it came unmoored and did 3 or 4 cartwheels across the back of the truck and slammed into the other side. Other than some very very small dents and scratches it came through it fine. I had 3 HDs in there, all Seagate. They all worked fine when I powered the machine up later. I like Seagate because all of the drives I have from them have this neat rubber case kind of thing around the. It really does seem to help when you are rough on your HDs.
Hah! But you'll be wearing a silly clown hat and driving that goofy van, while I'll get all kinds of cybernetic implants and other useless but cool looking widgets! And Hopefully death rays! YEAH! Sony must have death rays...
Just want I need to do, spend 45 minutes getting the last backup tape (hopefully I didn't make any changes to the file that got toasted in the last few hours) then finding and restoring the file, instead of 45 seconds to pull it back out of the trashbucket and stick it back where it belongs. Sounds REAL practical.
Well, I won't complain about them using it as a tmp folder, as long as they don't complain when the first thing I do when I sit down to see why their desktop background changeed colors is empty their 750mb recycle bin.
I think you view God as taking a more active role in the running of the Universe than I do. Perfect knowledge of events doesn't neccesitate inevitibility. All possible outcomes are known to God, which path we choose to traverse as reality is up to us. Perhaps in one version of reality the scripters weren't so affected by the social and political mindset of the people recording them. I don't give God credit for the good, or blame him for the bad. God gave us all of the tools and abilities we need. He no longer has to interfere to force miracles or retribution on us. The bad things we do are our fault, the good things we do are our accomplishments. If God did everything for us, there wouldn't be much need for us, would there? Oh, and knowledge that some things don't work is important knowledge. You might as well be angry at the universe for our lack of ability to fly (or other such things) since whether God exists or not is irrelevant to our natural abilities the laws are in place, no matter what put them there.
Hideously evil actions? You mean the whole free will thing where we are allowed to choose what we do?
Oh, and atrocities in pursuit of knowledge were atrocities we chose to commit, and they were all commited by people who believed they were doing what was right. Not to mention, they were accomplishments, and they did further our knowledge. So my statement still stands. I'm firm on this particular absolute.

Great, so it's just going to give me a raging headache because I have it 2 inches too far away from me or ny head is an inch too far to the left? Suck, let's get the 3d projectors going instead....
Ummm... Nope. Never caught any contradictions in there. I think God wants companions. It's kind of boring to talk to someone who is a complete moron compared to you, right? So he wants us to learn everything we can about what he created. And in the process, hopefully learn new things as well. Also, all of our accomplishments further the acquisition of knowledge in some fashion. And I can prove it for every single one. From fire, to the civil rights movement.
Sony Electronics and Sony Pictures/Sony Music have SERIOUS internal conflicts. Some friends I have who worked/used to work for Sony would tell horror stories about the Electronics guys sending viruses and things to the Music people, playing pranks on them, all kinds of good stuff. Lot of corporate rivalry there amongst the employees. I imagine that extends all the way up to the heads of the divisions wanting to do what's best for THEIR division.
I just wanna know why so many of my fellow creationists think that God would create a Universe that is SO internally inconsistent that it would require proof of his existence to explain something in it. That doesn't sound like the ominiscient, Omnipotent creator *I* know... I think God created a perfectly internaly consistent universe. We should be able to figure out how everything in it works eventually and manipulate it. That's what it's here for.
The relevant passages are not to question that he did put everything together. My belief is that after our first mistake of eatting of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Man that sentence uses "of" a lot) we can never go back to the blissful ignorant innocence of our childhood as a species. So we have to go forward and learn as much as possible. The Tower Of Babel was more related (in my opinion) to humans trying to invade Gods realm before they had acquired enough knowledge to be ready. To me it is a goad to learn more so that we will be worthy to sit with God (This is a situation entirely different from individual salvation and the heaven/hell issue).
Oooh, where do you find games with cursing? I think the worst thing I've ever heard in a game is 'Die Bitch' after I specifically enabled the "adult" features of... I think UT. Are there games where your opponents spew insults at you? I wanna gun down some guy after he yells, "Fuckoff Cocksucker!" at me! YEAH!
>:) Oh, to be somewhat on topic, I have certain days of the week where I workout and practice my MAs, on my off days I don't do a whole lot of heavy physical activity so sometimes I play games. Moderate gameplay is the key as you alluded to. Getting home from school at 3:30 and playing GTA until you pass out at 1am is probably not good for most third graders.
This is way you don't see a lot of highly aggressive martial artists (some, but not a lot), because they get to fight in a controlled setting against someone else.
What I REALLY like about most FPS games, is that if I'm losing, and I get mad, I can swear at the screen, I can rant at it, I can call my opponents all kinds of filthy things at the top of my lungs without need for restraint. In the real world if someone pisses me off, I can't just go ballistic on them and tell them what a fuckhead they are. It's quite nice to be able to vent at people who piss you off sometimes. So you can offload your anger at one jackass who you can't rant at, onto someone else that you can. So in some ways it's even more relaxing to be losing than winning.>:)
FPS games trigger Adrenaline, adrenaline is a yummy yummy drug. So FPS games make you feel better after playing them. Tetris doesn't trigger Adrenaline, but it does fuel your reward center by giving you a goal centric situation with relatively easily obtainable goals. So your brain gets to think, "YAY! I accomplished something!" Over and over again, instead of being stuck on, "Where are the FSCKING libraries we need to port our app to Solaris! ARGH! I can't find any of this stuff, this is hopeless!"
If you go out on a limb and take some of the religious records (Biblical and otherwise) at semi face value some people can be recorded as living around 250-300 years. As far as I know those numbers were arrived at by counting up generations of there children and assuming birth at 13. So 10 generations would put you at 130, and if you were still alive after 29 generations (Methuselah supposedly) you would be almost 300 years old. I'm not saying any of this is definately true, but there are certainly historical examples of people who supposedly lived a very long time for one reason or another.
Which strikes me as remarkably short sighted; I would tend to believe that a creationist would understand that their deity is riddled with enigmas with plausible explanations, and fully capable of providing alternative theories to creationism itself, if for nothing else than plausible deniability. Proof of God would undermine the need for faith.
I posted my view about this earlier in the discussion, but I'm one of the creationists that believes that since God is perfect, he wouldn't make a shoddy creation with all kinds of holes in it. So that there MUST be a scientific explanation for everything and we WILL be able to understand those explanations given enough time. I also believe that our purpose is to acquire as much knowledge as possible in order to become closer to God.
Because God isn't an idiot. As a Christian who isn't an ignorant Fundie, here is how my worldview works:
1.God is Perfect, 2.God created the Universe, 3.God would not create shoddy piece of crap with holes in it 4. It follows that everything in the Universe will fit together with every other thing in the Universe in some way that makes sense. It may not be readily discernible to us right now, but it is possible for us to discern it. 5. Our purpose in the Universe is to discern as much about it as possible before we die so as to become closer to by increasing our knowledge and understanding of His Creation.
That's where I stand. God just wouldn't make a Universe with big holes that REQUIRE the existence of God.
Maybe it's just a function of the specific Atheists I've spoken with in the past, but they have all stated there beliefs in the format of "I believe there is no God", as opposed to "I do not believe there is a God". Would being an Atheist more accurately be defined as not Worshipping any God? Regardless of your belief in their existence? So that perhaps one could say, "Yes, I believe in the existence of Allah, but I do not worship him." And be an Atheist or am I missing the point?
Umm, how does that work? Is it the specific belief that there are no gods, or is it no opinion either way? A lack of opinion would make you an Agnostic. A firm belief that there are no gods would make you equally as faith based as any other religion as there is no proof one way or the other that there are gods of any kind.
Even a literalist biblical interpretation of the creation section of genesis does not preclude the existence of life on other planets. "God Created the heavens and the earth..." and then he goes on to tell us about the part that matters to us, the earth. Depends on whether you believe that everything that exists must be mentioned specifically in the bible, which is absurd, since no one ever mentions platypuses in the bible, or even or dozens of other animals. So there is no biblical reason for any religious nutball to believe there is or is not life on other planets.
The necessary sample depth may preclude 'skimming' for samples. What happens if you need to move 50% of the way down into the atmosphere to get your sample? You then have to be carrying enough power to boost yourself back out, otherwise byebye probe....

LOL! I think that might be something to do with SUN boxes. I think they are unlucky. They two E250s I've worked with have been total POS machines.
