I don think accidentally typing "la" in your home directory will trigger the rogue program since your home directory is rarely in the PATH variable. You have to type the full path of the program $HOME/la or ./la if you're at your home directory. So i'm sure Obfuscation works a bit more elegantly than what you described but i think we get the picture.

  10. Please RTFA on Linux Can't Kill Windows · · Score: 2, Insightful

At first I thought it was some guy who just wanted to spread some FUD about Linux but check out the last paragraph:

Linux and Windows don't compete. Sun Microsystems sees this as an opportunity and has struggled mightily to position the combination of Solaris and Java as a platform. It almost makes it. I'd choose J2EE and Solaris over Linux for nonuser-facing server applications in shops that have expert administrators. But, similar to Linux and other flavors of Unix, Solaris is a nonstarter on clients, and that's enough to hurt its capability of competing with Windows. There is only one platform that can stand toe-to-toe with Windows, and that's the combination of OS X and Java.

Now this guy is making sense.

  15. Know Your Limits on Smart People Choke Under Pressure · · Score: 1

I think the best way to take on pressure is to know the limits of what we can do. Then, we will be able to set realistic goals no matter what we're doing. Like for me, I am well aware I am not a creative person. I cant really create a software from scratch easily, I cant just look at a problem and say, "Let's do something different with this". I basically cant think out of the box as well as some people do.

However, I do know my strength lies in my innovative capabilities. I learn rather fast and so am able to understand easily the solutions that were used before to solve a certain problem. I just build on top of it. So, I just end up telling myself:
Since I'm not so good at thinking out of the box, I might as well make my box bigger so that most of the things I NEED to think about, is in the box anyway!

The concept of open source is that by opening the source, we can make better software. 20. Sauber Petronas in Unique Situation Next Season on Formula One Racing Just a Matter of Crunching the Numbers · · Score: 1

Sauber Petronas will be in a rather awkward and yet unique position next season. As all F-1 fans know, there's a great tyre war going between Michelin (BMW-Williams, BAR-Honda, Renault, Mclaren-Mercedes, Toyota, Sauber Petronas, Red Bull Racing) and Bridgestone (Ferrari, Jordan, Minardi). Sauber Petronas buys their engines from Ferrari (incidentally the only top team in Bridgestone) and they will be switching to the Michelin tyres for next season. So, it will be very hard for Sauber Petronas to find trust from both their engine and tyre suppliers. Hence their need to find more speed based on their own R&D, maybe more this year.
