I don think accidentally typing "la" in your home directory will trigger the rogue program since your home directory is rarely in the PATH variable. You have to type the full path of the program $HOME/la or./la if you're at your home directory. So i'm sure Obfuscation works a bit more elegantly than what you described but i think we get the picture.
...do people still use CLI? I thought it's been phased out together with MS-DOS already? Isn't emphasing on CLI like taking a step backwards in the evolution of Operating systems? Guess not huh? So take that, all you Windoze GUI suckers!!!!!
At first I thought it was some guy who just wanted to spread some FUD about Linux but check out the last paragraph:
Linux and Windows don't compete. Sun Microsystems sees this as an opportunity and has struggled mightily to position the combination of Solaris and Java as a platform. It almost makes it. I'd choose J2EE and Solaris over Linux for nonuser-facing server applications in shops that have expert administrators. But, similar to Linux and other flavors of Unix, Solaris is a nonstarter on clients, and that's enough to hurt its capability of competing with Windows. There is only one platform that can stand toe-to-toe with Windows, and that's the combination of OS X and Java.
... soldiers can put up webpages online to allow people to control the military's FCS systems just like some people do it for webcams and such. Or even better, host Counter-Strike-like servers. Cool!
I think the best way to take on pressure is to know the limits of what we can do. Then, we will be able to set realistic goals no matter what we're doing. Like for me, I am well aware I am not a creative person. I cant really create a software from scratch easily, I cant just look at a problem and say, "Let's do something different with this". I basically cant think out of the box as well as some people do.
However, I do know my strength lies in my innovative capabilities. I learn rather fast and so am able to understand easily the solutions that were used before to solve a certain problem. I just build on top of it. So, I just end up telling myself:
Since I'm not so good at thinking out of the box, I might as well make my box bigger so that most of the things I NEED to think about, is in the box anyway!
I believe microsoft is working quite closely with the Cornell Theory Centre on this. Cornell has been using Windows for their HPC work for quite some time, concentrating mostly on financial analysis stuff. They even have a course on Windows HPC.
....the code forker has effectively became a code fucker...brilliant end to an eventful year!
p.s. pardon me for posting a 2nd comment on this article.
The concept of open source is that by opening the source, we can make better software. So I don't see why we cant copy from each other's code, as long as we give due credit in our release-notes, changelogs. I think the leader of the other project should consider working for Microsoft or Oracle if he has such a narrow view on open source.
Sauber Petronas will be in a rather awkward and yet unique position next season. As all F-1 fans know, there's a great tyre war going between Michelin (BMW-Williams, BAR-Honda, Renault, Mclaren-Mercedes, Toyota, Sauber Petronas, Red Bull Racing) and Bridgestone (Ferrari, Jordan, Minardi). Sauber Petronas buys their engines from Ferrari (incidentally the only top team in Bridgestone) and they will be switching to the Michelin tyres for next season. So, it will be very hard for Sauber Petronas to find trust from both their engine and tyre suppliers. Hence their need to find more speed based on their own R&D, maybe more this year.
A Microsoft spokesman said Monday that any performance problems on the company's site are likely related to countermeasures the company took to evade the MyDoom.B DDoS attack and not an attack from machines infected with the latest variant."
So in other words, to prevent MyDoom from DDoSing Microsoft's website, Microsoft decides to DDoS themselves instead. What a wonderful world!
But he also pointed out that because of the complexity of an operating system, reducing functionality was not a simple process and every modification would have to be thoroughly tested
I'm sure if Mr McBean uses anything else than Windows, he would know of such a thng called modularity
If Inte themselves couldnt do it when they tried to make everyone switch to ia64 with the itaniums, who could?

Does anyone find it weird that Googlers read "MSN Search Weblog":P
Well of course. Jst like the consipracy that slashdot takes away the 6th vowel in some titles.
Not exactly link to the document but here's a pdf of the tutorial for this standard (sort of like an overview of what the specification covers, IMHO)j uly03/tutorial_1_0703.pdf

Now this guy is making sense.

Did you find_this_irritating from Linus's interview in TFA?
...if the compute nodes can be configured to boot into non-GUI mode because who needs GUI for the compute nodes??
And what about remote access of the compute nodes. WIll openssh be included (via cygwin)?
..characteristic of contemporary literature, which is more fond of anti-heroes methinks
Like William Hung, you mean?

an OS that even has a process just for idling (System Idle Process)

Wife: Honey, can you turn down the TV volume, you're stealing too much processing from the microwave and my chicken wont bake nicely.
Husband (sniggers): Yah, as if it'll make it taste better
... have to be a Slashdot Subscriber to know it first;)
Wow....even Gentoo's website can be slashdotted. Hmm.. does that mean that there werent as many gentoo users as i thought it should be?
