  1. About Friggin' Time! on McNealy Steps Down as Sun Microsystems CEO · · Score: 0

    Fantastic News
.. This should mean that Schwartz can now FINALLY afford a hair cut and cut off that damn pony Tail, That's soooo pre "The Network is the computer." Although since they now offer all their software for Free, (although you definitely need to pay for maintenance/support) perhaps he'll have to settle for a mullet..

  2. Totally Agree, Have a prime Example on Cellphone Drivers Drive Like Drunks · · Score: 0

I completely agree with the study. A few years ago, my wife was driving home from work, it was around 12am, and took her usual route home.
There is a stop sign off a main road, She stopped, and suddenly was rear ended by a acura. The young woman got out, and actually said "Oh I'm so sorry, I was talking on my cell phone, and got distracted"
She hit my wife's car, going 60 Km/Hour. She didn't even try to hit the brakes.
It's been 3.5 years and she still has cronic back pain, and severe headaches. Being a soft tissue injury, she also got next to no settlement, (unlike what a broken bone would). Her MRI concluded that the fluid layer between one of her disc's, was punctured, but there wasn't proof that it was that way, BEFORE the accident.
Needless to say, I hate seeing people on Cell phones.

is it just me.. http://blogs.sun.com/jonathan/ errors out
I get a net timeout error on his blog... Perhaps that's the TRUE test, put one of those fan-dangled 32-way core-thingys, and post on /. and see if it can hold it's own......??

  4. SUN Microsystems a good example on Tech Support Levels Dropping · · Score: 1

I agree with this article. I continuously have to submit support calls to Sun Microsystem around JES (a topic of another good discussion). I encounter bugs, and issues, where I have to log a support call. 95 % of the time, I get someone outside the country. I find that I have to spend MUCH more time: A:) repeating myself, B:) restating the problem, C:) going into much more detail then usual to get a clear focus on the outstanding issue. D:) getting the tech to repeat/restate what he's saying so I can understand what he's saying.
I prefer to talk to someone on the phone, as I find you can usually do much better troubleshooting, and resolve issues much quicker, then by email. But 95 % of the time, I usually insist email-only conversations, because these techs are too difficult to understand. Besides, they are just working on a script, NEVER can they immediately suggest a solution or workaround for even small issues, it's always "I'll have to bring this to the attention of my backline engineer" (Which means, "I have no idea what your talking about, let me find someone I hope can...")This exercise is at LEAST a 12-24hr turn-around.
It drives me crazy. I strongly believe that outsourcing to India severely impacts "time-to-resolution" calls. I'd say any issue I open up now, I forecast a minimum of 7 days for resolution.
