In reality this book is meant to be for LDAP beginners and Tom does make that clear. I believe the book was actually originally written as a college text which further strengthens the point is geared for a beginner. Having a actual paperback book on man pages and scripting examples is probably one of the most lacking pieces of documentation around for LDAP. The only good docs I've found on Net::LDAP and even the php libraries are only the authors api docs. The truth is you need scripting examples to get good at managing LDAP.
I had the same problem at a companyt Called Dancris Telecom. I was the Techsupport manager/Unix Admin for the ISP Division, and I was only 18. They hired a new CTO, and he took my maganment position away from me telling me that I didn't have enough experiance to do the job. Yet I had already completly turned the department around from when i had started, and managed it for over a year. I had even gotten several letters from customers complementing me on the new techsupport department. They gave my job to a 30yr old almost MCSE that had no managment experiance at all. After the CTO took my maganment title, then they told me they really didn't need a unix admin anymore (For a ISP that ran only Unix) and may soon place me in tech support. So I quite and found a better Job. The only advice I offer is to make it know about your experiances with your company, so that others can be aware going into your company. Perhaps/. should have a section aboput dead-beat companys that readers can post comments about, so when any reader is about to take a new job they can check out others experiance.
So dose this mean that the GNU group should edit it's license so that it says when ever a microsoft computer uses a Sendmail services or BIND services or apache Service or any onther *nix Service that we get to charge them a licence fee to interface with it. I wonder how many microsoft users would jump ship If the internet was taken back my *nix.
25 cents for each DNS lookup.
Kick ass! Is so this could fund the FSF for a very long time.
Hey my company Dancris Telecom already made a anti worm for the netowrk VB Virus. It scans for machines with this virus, replaces the virus in the startup menu with it self then continues to scan for infected machines. On reboot in removes it self and leaves a message on the desk top that tells the end user that they need to not leave open file shares on their computer. i will make a follow up post later with a link to the source code so you can download it.
Hey I am a Junior Admin In the Phoenix Metro Area, I have had to tell many customers that they can't have DSL. But here is some interesting news. The company I work For Dancris Telcom Is currently beta testing Wireless internet service. We will be using cisco wireless ethernet over the entire valley we will be setting up repeators everywhere. The only thing that Is holding it up right now is that the current verision we have is based on cell channels that other people are currently broadcasting on the new version is supposed to scan several channels and find a open one and broad cast on it. We are planning on hitting the entire valley in one shot. We will be selling this wireless service or about the same cost as DSL. We will also be providing speeds of about 1 meg. Ok now that I have glorified the wireless infasturucture here are the down falls. While we will be most likly wiring the whole valley because of the way that radio waves work their may be holes in the brodcast signal. these should be minimal but without the entire system up we don't know the full extent yet. Secound and worst we are still it beta state the launch of this wireless infastructure is about 3-6 months away. Or so I am being told I have only gotten to play with it once here in the office and I was very happy with the speed. As far as other serives go currently you are limited to a few choices One Qwest DSl not avaliable everywhere (actually not in most places) Cox Avaiable in more places but if other people around you also have it the speed goes down. (shared network) Speed choice/ Sprint broad band, very good availablity but horrible spped and service. Their rule is as long as you are in line of sight of south mountain you can get it but they have their bandwith completely saturated. Also Their is another company called Covad They offer DSL lines as well for a good price I know that as of now Mind Spring Is going through them I haven't heard to much about this so I can't make a judgement yet! Qwest or USwest also in conjunction with ISP offer ISDN isdn is available in more places than DSL, but they are pricey and only 128-144k, but they are reliable.
