Yes. In a warehouse, which was brutal. And it has an effect there...
But we are talking about manual labor (speakin' 'merican) in 36C, 41C, or 46C instead of your values. And then, how much of the overall work is performed outside? How much will people adjust and do work earlier or later (which they already do in Construction)? How much will evolution play a role? Does warmer weather make people happier and therefore more productive?
This study was not in depth. It can't be. It covered something that has thousands of variables.
I agree. However, online gambling with Atlantic City will fall under a gaming regulation organization. That doesn't mean it will be a fair, as in free from fraud. But at least there are measures and penalties with teeth if there is fraud. There is a major disincentive for an Atlantic City casino to not monitor their own online gambling applications.
That said, I would never gamble online outside of results that are determined outside the computer...like sports betting. In a casino, I never gamble with machines. Even then, I am subject to potential fraud. But in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, I am not worried about fraud on table games. The game is in their favor and with the penalties of try to make it MORE in their favor are just not worth it to them.
What if they have controls in place that verify that state of origin? Most states have legal gambling...albeit with sanctioned monopolies. To take it a step further, could a State argue against online gambling in Atlantic City, yet allow PowerBall? A good lawyer can argue in Federal court that gambling isn't illegal in most States/Commonwealths.
For states that don't have monopolistic gambling (like OH) or a lottery, their people can be blocked with the appropriate measures.
Talk about a study that has too many variables to conclude something so major... How did they eliminate the effect of today's technology and culture on work ethic and demand? Among the thousands of other variables...
5 degrees isn't going to reduce overall labor by 5%, let alone 10%. And the 10% is considered with far less than 5 degrees in increased temperature.
I agree with you on what a bad idea fiat currencies can be.
However, the 100% failure rate is a horrible statistic. Of course all currencies that came to an end failed. Why would a successful currency come to an end?
A better stat would be "What percent of failed currencies are fiat?"
It helps when most countries are destroying their currency at a similar rate to the US..for the same reasons.
China controls the value of their currency to specifically devalue it at the US dollar rate. They want to keep their stuff cheap for Americans. They do it by expanding their money supply...like the US. To do that in a country with laws and accounting, you need to go in debt. You need a negative for every positive. I don't know how China terms the negative side of money supply expansion, but it is debt. Maybe they liquidate the debt at the stroke of a pen, but that is just lawlessness and done so at the extreme detriment to their credit rating. Since I think they have a good credit rating, I would assume they administer their debt.
Although correct, it ignores the gist of the GP. Sure, the money will have worth. But as the perceptive ability to pay off debts becomes less likely, the less value/worth the money has on the international market. So you and government law can assign whatever value they want to currency...but the international exchange rates will dictate its true worth.
The Econ professor should have mentioned that the supply of college graduates is so high that non-college graduates with high school diplomas are now the rarer commodity. Within reason, it is now actually more admirable to pass on college. (within reason = did well in HS and showed commitment, competence, and drive in your post HS jobs)
It depends on the person. However, it sounds like he just has a bad cold. It is easy to tell the difference. I've had mono (doctor diagnosed) once, the flu twice, and the pig flu (doctor diagnosed) once. Mono and the pig flu make you feel like you are going to die. My wife and I had the pig flu at the same time. I got over it in 2 days...it took her 2 weeks.
My first flu was a couple days and the 2nd time it lasted 1.5 days. After a subsequent night's sleep you should be good to go to work. You can't do intense physical labor or play basketball, but you are generally good to go.
I have a good immune system. I never take shots...haven't had a vaccine in 10+ years and never had the flu vaccine. I rarely ever take pain killers, let alone other crap. My body tears through diseases like paper.
The stress has a value. So you can't make a blanket statement like "the stress isn't worth it". What if the payout is $10k? $50k? $100k? At some point, it is certainly more than worth it.
Why? If he pays the same premium on insurance, then he actually has a disincentive to secure his place. He should just secure his personal information through some kind of encryption. Then let burglars steal his stuff again. Then he can buy new stuff...like a free upgrade.
If instead of 1 political division, or even 50 political divisions, most of the power were in 10000 political divisions then government would represent its people better. The only "right" government is one where the judge, jury, and executioner is the only person in that system. A political division of 1 person. Once you add a 2nd person, a single disagreement makes for a "wrong" government.
That is assuming that income is more of a function of the benefit than consumption. Also keep in mind that all income comes from consumption.
If you made $1,000,000, you or your descendants or their descendants (to infinity) would eventually spend that $1,000,000. So you will owe as a function of the income anyway. It is just harder for the US government to project revenue. But when you can borrow money at 2%, why the hell would you care?
That is pretty hilarious. I don't understand why a company can't do the architecture themselves and then outsource the components. The money saved would actually allow you outsource each components 3 times. Then use the 1 of the 3 that works best.
Companies lost faith in their internal organizations? No, chicken shit unknowledgeable managers (not companies) don't want to take responsibility for doing anything more complex than a CRUD service, so they send it to Accenture and IBM. It is a big blame game and a web of CYAs.
And yet they still benefited. Several people had jobs and were paid for 10 years and they paid income taxes and spent their money mostly in local places, which was sales taxed. The area didn't benefit as much as it could have, but it still benefited.
I realize it is illegal in places. It is just an argument along the same lines. The argument shows how making suicide illegal can be a slippery slope condition. It falls under the guise of government protect you from yourself.

It is classified as the armpit of America; I am in NJ

I for one got the flue twice, despite not having a shot.
All you need is a few crazy obsessed people and PROFIT!

Or in Soviet Russia; does Linux run it?

As the GP post, I agree. I am just stating that it was still beneficial...albeit stupid policy.

Actually "equal" would measure in the millions for you.

This is like arguing suicide should be illegal. The government wants to step in to prevent you from violating your own rights.
Yes, it is politics at its finest. Alongthe lines of "it depends on what your definition of 'is' is."
