I didn't see software developer anywhere in the GP post. But that said, you can easily make $120k in Columbus, OH for the $200k job in SF. In Columbus, you can buy 3800 sqft houses for $250k. How about SF?
For the record, I am now in NYC. There are other advantages and disadvantages to a big city vs not-as-big city vs country. It is up the individual. However, the location is VERY relevant in the salaries discussed in the summary.
It is being used as a way for the company to try out an employee without hiring them full time. Then they don't need to deal with benefits or the repercussions of laying them off. Basically the same as contractors...
I think it is stupid too. Just call them contractors.
I don't know where the summary was trying to go. They want automation, but was ignorant of how much automation you could have.
If your refrigerator can order food, why can't it pack itself? Why can't the delivery people unpack it? Why can't you be sitting on the couch and yell:
You: "House! Make me some boneless wings" House: "Hi Hal, how many boneless wings?" You: "I don't know...20" House: "Do you want them tossed in a buffalo sauce as usual?" You: "Damn right!" House: "Ok...it'll be ready in 15 minutes. It'll cost you 1200 calories and $4.50".
Come on. All this technology exists. It is just a matter of cost. But once it catches on, the volume will drive the cost down and it will be the next "smartphone".
"return all the emails to identical.name@domain.com"
What? How would the both use the same email? I am currently First1.Last@domain.tld. It sucks. I want to see the CEO get an email with a number in it.
Everyone should have an email of their unique username. Aliases should automatically be created for anyone dealing with external communication. In that case, you can still get a duplicate. But if you allow nicknames and middle initials for those aliases to begin with, then you won't run into it as often. If you then do run into it, let the 2nd, 3rd, etc.. person decide what alias they want to use...within reason.
Narrowing down the people who do external communication for a company of 10k+ people will do wonders. Most people aren't executives or sales people.
Along with liability, I would be worried about bandwidth starvation and isolation of my internal network from those "passing by". These can all be done today, but if the router an easy menu to set that up easily, it would work.
I would imagine that if it became too popular, the Internet providers will start capping usage to something crazy low.
CSPAN is irrelevant. Politicians don't do anything; they only react to what is happening and make themselves sound like they are doing something about it.
G+ is more like the Discovery networks. There is some good content embedded into not-so-good programs. Then there is the crap and cream of the crop.
True. The likely result from this will be that Newegg won't be getting so many lawsuits. When a company that holds a patent that all retailers could be infringing, they will sue everyone but Newegg. Suing Newegg will be a risk to their asset.
I advocated replacing the minimum wage and state-mandated unemployment insurance (and frankly SS/Medicare/Medicaid/etc) with what is called a basic income. Just give people money if the goal is for them to have enough money to eat & live. Stop manipulating the job market to solve a completely different problem.
Hoard for what? Their kids will spend it. Or their kid's kids. Or they'll give it to a charity who will spend it. One thing is for sure. That money WILL be spent.
Which goes to support a consumption tax. They would expense it and the company would pay the consumption tax. Right now, the company gets to write off that expense.
There is that benefit, but that extra money will be spent eventually. Money doesn't just sit perpetually. It will be invested and after that spent by him/her, his sons/daughters, grandsons/granddaughters, etc... Someone will spend that moolah. Just because the government has more difficult revenue projections doesn't mean it isn't a good idea.
All money is eventually spent. Even if it is by later generations. If a rich guy wants to live like he's making $250k a year, then why shouldn't he get taxed like he's making $250k a year?
And as stated, the money saved will be spent by his daughter...like Paris Hilton. The Kennedy family is in the minority.
Is Chrome 64-bit yet? At least in the beta version??

The US government cut back? That is news to me...and apparently our deficit.
You just used bedroom, vibrator, silicone, legs, pot, and cream in the same line. I think it's safe to assume I shouldn't click on the link at work.

And Windows costs billions of dollars. Just that the copies are practically free...
Who is using their camera on the phone to do such high quality photos? The lens on phone cameras alone make uncompressed images worthless.
Like how when someone says something un-PC on twitter they chalk it up to someone hacking into their account.
On the same logic, maybe they should contact Duracell and Energizer.

If you were a Brazil a few weeks ago, is it safe to assume you are still a Brazil?
That is correct. However, I think Amazon can stop making payments of 1% of revenue day forward.

Why not Quentin Tarantino? I can't even start to think where he would take such a film...
Is "Enemy Captain" the "Ugly" from the "Good, Bad, and the Ugly"?
An estimated 1,000,000 people secretly cross the border into the US every year; that's about 2,700 people per day. ...
It must not be much of a secret then...
I take it you didn't read my post.

Remember dividends being regular income too.
