So what your saying is if anyone on slashdot asked a super hot model out she would be ultra cold to them? I think I finally understand string theory or is that relativity?
It's windows. they don't support the cool keyboards without drivers. Same goes with mice. Get more than two buttons and you need special software. don't forget the new tray icons, desktop shortcuts(cause we all need shortcuts on the desktop to keyboard settings) auto updater that runs as admin and interferes with hibernation mode.
Too be fair MSFT only allowed the problem. other companies made it horrendous.
Considering I use 250 megabytes a month on my iphone while at work, and that doesn't include the wifi usage. 20 gb doesn't seem so much. Think about it slashdot, ars techinca, the register, and a couple of other real news places, once a day 5 days a week.
For fun I am recording my current usage. I am up to 5 gigabytes in the past week without bit torrent, without any P2P. That is simply browsing from 5 computers in the house.
The average webpage with graphics and ads and javascript sucks down roughly a megabyte a page. Read 5 articles and their associated comments on slashdot and your already at 10-12 megabytes. Due that once a day for 30 days and your usage of just slashdot and related content is roughly 300 megabytes. Most people I know who read the news have 4-5 major places they go to. So that's 1.5 gigs a month Times 3-4 people. is 4.5 to 6 gigs a month on just news.
Now let's load up some webcomics. I have about 30 that I read weekly, plus another 5 that load daily so that 55 pages times 4 is is 220 webpages. at lets say 1.5 megabytes a page. (damn those large colour graphics)That's only 330 megabytes. again times 3 people is another gigabyte. I am nearly roughly 8 gigs a month in just regular reading material. no hulu no youtube, no facebook no myspace(let's not start counting the megabyte after megabyte per page those two companies produce) I download two linux dvd's and I am at the 20 gig cap.
Oh and Time warner doesn't like direct links in their website they change it regularly so that they don't work right. you have to visit at least 2 pages in order to see usage. Not to mention a third reload to login.
Stop to actually add up what is being used by regular geeks, and teenagers. it is just plain scary how fast it does add up.
Because like win 2k, win Xp and Vista all have slightly different API's.
Of course as a developer you knew that. With 10.6 apple is cutting out old Api's finally removing the last parts of OS9 compatibilty 9 years after the release of OSX.
If win 7 would only remove the win 32 Api entirely. And kill off that horehdous chapter in computing. If they did I just might start using windows again.
Ah but you can choose not to have SMS messaging, your phone can show you how many minutes you have used. Water and electricity have regulated metering systems.
Try to figure out ow much of your monthly bandwidth you have used without using more bandwidth. personally I say make a law that the ISP wants metered service then they must provide a meter at the point of entry into the house(for cable modem at the cable modem, DSL modems, etc)
Time Warner would stop and yet i isn't specifically blocked.
Since the majority of the USA have only one cable provider I would say the majority. Local governments have been granting monopolies for decades. As they upgraded to high speed internet. you get cable and random pockets of DSL. I day random as I can't DSL in my home though people within 2 miles of me can.
At least in America an actor can become a head of state. you don't have to be part of the elite political systems. the more I learned of parlimentary systems and how quickly they switch to autocratic (russia, most of the governments setup by the USA in their nation building stupidity) I am glad to be in the USA.
Our system takes forever to accomplish anything Including devolving into an orweillian society which the UK seems intent on doing almost as fast as Russia.
That's just it. They get ad revenue when people visit their sites. Google news drives customers to their sites producing ad revenue. However since theAP likes to print the same article in every newspaper and only a handful benefit from google news the AP want google to make up the difference.
don't worry your not alone. CFL's need to be left on for hours in order to realize their full energy savings too. So for bathrooms, and kitchens they are good. for the rest of the home not so much. Not to mention if you want to use a dimmer you have to buy the $15 a lamp bulb completely negating any potential benefit you might have had.
The incandescent in my bedroom light has been replaced twice in 6 years. I put in a 100 watt bulb and dim it 75% and this one is lasting almost as long as the CFl's.
The trick with CFL's if you want a good one is you have to pay for them. you can't buy the $2 home depot specials. however if you spend more than $3 per lamp you will lose money. on energy saved versus dollars spent for the same light.
You do know that subs very rarely use active sonar? It is giving away your position. Surface ships tend to use active sonar to assit in finding subs that are trying to hide. First strike weapons hide. That is their first goal. If you use active sonar you tell everyone within a couple hundred miles of exactly whereyour hiding.
Then again your an AC you probably don't know such basic things.
Do you know what a news aggrestor does? From your response I would say no. Googles news searches news articles puts the headline and the first sentence or two foryou to view. They include a link to the source in question. If you want to know more you go to the source and their own ads.
News aggerrator only increase views for a source. While google gets some ad revenue while your on their site, when your reading the main article they get the ad revenue.
If AP was smart they would create their own aggerator. However the AP isn't smart they are just greedy and don't want to change anything even their own smelly underwear.
because I live within 300 miles of the stadium and as such i am in the blackout zone. They figure they can black out all of NY state in both audio and video if your within 300 miles you should go to the game.
I like to stream the audio. Narrow bandwidth even though we have high speed. The audio quality is as good as the radio, and if it is teams that everyone wants to listen to, we use one of the short range FM transmitters to the shop radios.
Radio and tv blackout zones are a true evil. especially in an age when the teams in question make billions.
well said. However every time something like this gets published I would say 10% of the silent ones come out as well.
In my home town, a small local police district Is in hot water to the point where the town is talking about firing half the officers. an off duty cop was drunk smashed his vehicle into someone else and killed that person. Some how he ended up at home and wasn't tested until 24 hours later. Deeper investigation eventually lead to about half the police force in some way connected to getting him home and hiding facts about the case. Now as all of that is being investigated the amount of corruption this group of officers is coming to light, in one giant circle. Like getting out of tickets for personal favors.
Corruption is like a wolf pack. while a lone wolf is possible it is abnormal. So once a bit of corruption is shown further investigation usually brings out more. While some of it may get away the worst of it is gone for a while. So while we may only hear about a small part it is the worst part and that will most likely get taken out.
Which is why I have a battery powered wireless NAS that looks like a block of wood holding up my desk. The fact that it is made from a block of wood helps with the disguise.
My router logs are the only hint that it exists. but since logs don't show where physically something is hiding they won't ever find it.
How long before people understand the Streisand Effect??
This just seems like bullying(who started it and why is something else). Do cops not know of internet cafe's? freedom of speech? or are people just willfully ignorant of reality around them. Like the town that tossed out google streetview. If I close my eyes the bad people can't see me cause i can't see them?
one day I hope humanity grows up? unfortunately I will have been long since dead.
Why bother with AT&T?
In most areas you can switch to earthlink using the same modem, same lines and switch the service over by phone in less than an hour.
Be sure to call time warner and tell them your canceling your internet with them due to unsavory business practices.
don't know but Colbert likes to run his mouth, nowadtranauts get to strapinto him and run. Probablywhile watching video rips of his show.

I have heard about digging the last mile. I wonder how much time warner is gonna charge NASA for it?

As Torvald's once said I have not set out to destroy MSFT it is a completely unintentional side effect.
I'm saving my copy of windows ME just for the cylon revolt.

While Linux and the BSD's aren't OS X 10.5 is a certified unix by the open group. Making it a real unix.
That being said while love it for desktop it won't ever touch my servers.
So that explains Mac users. People who enjoy being able to use their software are smug.
Does that make all windows users maschosists?
No it is a vote for sociiaism and legalized prostitution.
