Napster was only cool as long as there were no real alternatives. Audiogalaxy was much better, both in handling and the way it worked. Heard a song on the radio while being at work? Entered the website and when you got home, the song was on your harddrive. And you could find a lot of things that you would have never found on napster.
Everything after Audiogalaxy was quite crappy, especially Kazaa / Morpheus etc. Only Top 100 music and lots of dialers, worms and fakes.
Why should booting off a raid be a waste of time? Takes as long / short as booting off a single disk. And if you've ever lost something (perhaps personally) valuable due to a disk failure, you appreciate any kind of security you can get which includes storing your data on a raid array.
HighPoint RocketRAID cards do not function well when used as the boot device for Windows XP. This was verified by HighPoint technical support. We did not try them under Linux. But read my comment above about timing issues.
I have a Abit KT7A-Raid board with onboard HPT370 Controller. Attached to this one are 3 Seagate 80GB and one Maxtor 20GB drive. The Seagates are combined via Linux Software Raid5 (using Raid1 for the/boot partition). My Athlon TB1333C with 512MB Ram has no further problems with generating the parity for Raid5.
Otherwise, Windows seems to have serious problems with the Highpoint-Controller. Quite often, i found the Windows partition on the Maxtor scrambled, so I had to use my backup to regenerate it. Attaching this disk to the onboard VIA-controller does not generate these problems. If it wasn't for the games, I would leave the Windows world entirely.
It seems like there are only pro-gun comments modded up. Why are you so obsessed b y your guns? During my duty at the army (German Bundeswehr), i found it quite interesting on the shooting range. But i don't feel the need to own a gun. Because once you have one, you are not far from using it. Even if you just use it for threatening other people because they act in a way that you do not like.
When it comes to guns, i always have to think of a comment Chris Rock did at some MTV Video Music Awards: If a bullett cost 5000$, less people would be killed.
NT 4 workstation could be changed into NT 4 Server with a registry key switch. I don't think that "feature" made it's way into 2000/XP though.
This works with Windows 2000 and XP the same way. There is a tool around the web, which converts 2000 or XP Professional into a 2000 Server / 2003 Server and vice versa. They even start up with the correct screens - XP starts up with the Windows 2003 Server startup screen. Basicly, it's just some keys in the registry, which make the difference bitween Workstation and Server variants of Windows.
Why? In school (over here in Germany) we were tought that an is only used in front of words that start with a vocal. X does not seem like a vocal to me.
Beside that, the idea of a xbox cluster ain't that great. For $210 or less you get a new PC that has more power than the xbox and does not need so much work to get running.
I don't understand why the parent is modded +5, insightful. Enforce laws who deserve to be laws to the fullest. But laws, that are just there because someone had a big wallet should not be enforced.
In case parent was meant satiric i deny all of the above and tell the opposite:-]
Why do people overclock their PCs? The money you have to spend for extra cooling could also be spent for a faster CPU. And the manufactuerer does not specify a chip for a certain clock-speed without a reason.
Sometimes I take the other way und underclock my Athlon TB1333. With less speed you can also decrease the core voltage and save some energy. If you combine this with a tool like (L)Vcool, you get a really cool & quiet computer, even with the boil an egg on it Athlon.
I think it was more meant in the way of VT220 or IBM TN3270 emulation, not terminals that just open a shell.
By the way, @work we use Hoblink J-Term for our Host Connection. The decision for this product was made after reading that it was written in Java, and would therefore run on different platforms. They nowhere wrote that they used MS-Java, so it just runs with IE and the (quite buggy) MS Java Engine. Seems clearer if you look at their homepage and find this picture. Quite annoying.
They should change that name especially for Germany. Because in German "Wix" sounds like "Wichsen" which means to jerk off. So noone will take this serious.
Or maybe it does not have anything to do with jerking off? Perhaps I should go and read the fine article...

Yeah, those were the days.
Even though the name is a bit scary: Project Eunuch :-)
And after demonstrating your tech skills, you can have some fun by disposing the cooling liquids!

Oooops, should be: Because their fingers are already crippled by jerking off too much :-)

That should be an xbox not "a xbox".
