The VA cluster is no more. It is being sold as individual G5s by Macmall, each with a certificate proving that it was part of the cluster!
There were issues with unbuffered RAM, so they have decided to make a new cluster with the new 2ghz X-Serves which use EEC RAM ( and new IBM 970fx chips).
This has resulted in massive shipping delays for the dual X-Serves, but should mean that a very, very good machine is created at VT...
I also think that the fact that the Pixar/Disney agreement was skewed toward disney is also a factor in things. Apparently, 'sequels' didn't count in the 5 movie deal they had with Pixar... Jobs took this to feel that making 'Toy Story 2 was a 'freebie' for Disney, as in essence Pixar got very little for their efforts.
Disney proposed a Toy Story 3 to capitalise on the success of the first 2, and they tried to pull the same stunt! I guess you can get one over on Steve once... but not twice!
This has all the hallmarks of being just a dig at Pixar after the two companies very public 'falling out' earlier this month... (Falling out = Disney trying to shaft Steve Jobs?)
I'm guessing that all this will mean is that Mac users won't be able to watch 'Lion King 7' on their computers when it come out...:p
Without Pixar, Disney could be in real trouble film wise...
The page has changed, offending section now reads;
"Wrath of the geeks
If anyone's anger has no measure, it is the wrath of internet zealots who believe that code should be free to all (open source).
So, it seems likely that the perpetrators of the MyDoom virus and its variants are internet vandals with a specific grudge.
SCO is the big, bad company that violates one of their sacred principles, as they would see it.
There's no proof, of course, but it must be one of the theories at the top of any investigator's list.
Not that Linux devotees probably have that much to worry about.
Despite the law-suits against users by SCO, sales of computer servers using Linux have soared - up on one estimate by 50% in the past year, litigation or no litigation."
The OS 'Up To Date' program applies to all Apple computer purchases post 8th October, allowing an upgrade to 10.3 for the reduced 'handling fee' of $19.99.
However, I can see there will be a lot of new 12", 15" and 17" 'Alu' Powerbook owners that will feel they have been shafted having bought the new revised machines at the start of October...
The licence agreement on OS X precludes it being used on anything other than Apple licenced/made hardware.
I would think that the manufacturers will be in the clear as they don't supply or load OS X on the system, but the actual owner of the installed copy OS X is in breach of the EULA...
Can't see Apple identifying infringments, and tracking them all down though!
(At least I hope they don't... they should be busy building the 970 Powermacs...)
The same site released pictures and specs of the Mirror Drive Door series Powermacs weeks before it was announced... and, it has also had a lot of correct info on numerous products and services in the past year.
They do have a good veneer of credibility... well more so than the other rumor sites *cough* Spymac *cough*.
While I take the rumor with a healthy pinch of salt, the specs do seem in the right ballpark from what I have heard so far...
Myself and a few mates used to play RE games for hours on end at Uni... I am still haunted by the moaning and feet scraping sound the zombies made... It is a work of genius, and in all honesty the games still scare the bejesus out of me...
However for sheer terror, I found that the game 'Silent Hill' on the PS1 was as creepy as it got... it was pure psychological horror... I'll never forget walking through the hospital with a fire-axe waiting for zombie/undead nurses to jump out at me. Some nights I had to physically remove the game from my room as it disturbed me so much...
As for the very first games that really 'effected' me, not scared me, it was the Bards Tales tale series. The maps were huge and totally frustrating, I got kind of attached to the characters and just got absorbed into whole thing... it made me realise that one day in future, there was the possibly for there to be so much 'depth' in a machine/computer that you could effectively totally 'immerse' yourself in an alternate world...
I sat there for weeks with graph paper and pens mapping out dungeons and tower and stuff. I would dream about it (!) and ways to complete dungeons and defeat enemies...but never did finish it! I downloaded a copy of the game for my Mac a few months ago, and to me the game had lost none of it's charm...! I d/led the maps and all the walk throughs and decided that I HAD to finish it. All went well until it kept crashing on the final dungeon... Guess I'm never meant to complete it...
My money is on 'Pant Her' for sheer comedy value...
But will Steve even be heard form behind the bullet proof glass, needed for when he announces there is no 970 for Apple, and Moto have a neat new chip out?;-)
I bought a new cell phone today here in the UK (T68i.. finally bluetooth interaction between my Mac and Mobile!)...
I changed networks and was able to port over my original number with no problem at all, and also no charge... Overall, I'll have had the same number for 4 years, and with 3 different networks...
Now if only they didn't fleece me for calls made over my airtime limit I'd be really happy...
Each to their own I guess...

How could anyone resist? I mean, you don't get those kind of extras on your average VW...

It was all fixed for me in the last release...
No, just the souls of dead Motorola Engineers...
I think we will see them in all Powewrmcs and Powerbooks sooner then we think...
As for the iBook, mmmmm, I would guess at an IBM 'Mojave' derrivative. A pumped G3+ with a decent FSB, Altivec et al...
Motorola have said repeatedly that they are concentrating on embedded processors only, so it really could be goodbye Moto this time... about time too.
In my original post, I was clearly not discussing Apple's attitude towards IP, Patents and software licenses in general.
I only referred to breaches of the EULA of OS X by users running the OS on Pegasus... BIG difference.
I would prefer Apple's cash go into R&D, than see the 'Fedayeen Steve' chasing down users...
I'm pretty sure a lot of other Mac users would feel the same way...
