  1. Re:ham radio? on Cringely On Electronic Tapping · · Score: 1

For even more fun on ham radio try coherent CW which is even more difficult to intercept due to the very low bandwidth of the transmissions. Coherent CW is just like normal CW except the transmitters are referenced to a standard frequency which means that your signal can be very narrow 10 Hz as opposed to the 400-800Hz a normal CW signal occupies. And lets not forget the obfuscation possible with the CW prosigns. So 73 OM/YL

  2. Freight Forwarders are the enemy on Restrictive Sales Practices on the Web? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Fraud of course is a issue. But shipping and customs clearance is a larger issue which prevents many companies from shipping internationally. What one usually does is to hand off the shipment to a Freight Forwarder who handles all the paperwork and shepherds the package through ALL of the customs agencies. Every time a package crosses a international border it is "inspected" and taxed (or stolen) the forwarders job is to ensure that the paperwork and shipment of the product actually occurs instead of the package langushing in a customs hold area. That at least is the theory most of the forwarders are not automated so tracking packages is a manual process and remember not all shippers operate in all countries so you can have a situation where the package is intially shipped via Fedex then to DHL then to BAX and finally back to fedex for final delivery. In short most businesses who are not in the international logistics business do not have the resources to handle international transshipment of product.

Right, This is off topic slightly

That is until you play with the rate of climb/descent. Pressed in read's in 100's of FPM
pulled out reads in 10's of FPM digital indicator
only shows 3 digits. is that reading 300 FPM or 3000 FPM. This is what caused the crash at its introduction at the Paris airshow. when a device "interprets" your commands rather than executes them we can certainly have unexpected side effects.

A quick answer. IF the keys or certificates are available you can use any IPSec client implmentation as the Cisco VPN concentrators are standards based and are designed to interoperate with any standard IPSec implementation.

Linux binary emulation probably will not work since the Cisco VPN client is implemented as a kernel module.

    Hope this helps.

Actually the police will not need a warrant due to something called "implied consent" which means by the act of operating your vehicle on a "public way" you have consented to allow Law Enforcement to search your vehicle by any means they deem expedient. All vehicles since 1996 have OBD II systems onboard and the data can be retrived with a laptop with the appropriate connector or dedicated hardware. This collects ALL performance statistics for the vehicle in question. Most of which are encoded in manufacturer specific formats beyond the basics which monitor the performance of the emission control system.

Use the fixup DNS command on the PIX to address the RFC1918 address inside registered address outside problem You of course will need DNS service on both networks i.e. internal dns serves the 192.168.x.y network and the external dns server knows about the public addresses. Your inside DNS is configured as a forwarder so that queries which it cannot resolve directly are punted to a external DNS server which can resolve them and the FIXUP DNS takes care of the issues with the payload.

  8. Color management defines the platform choice on Adobe Says PCs Are Preferred · · Score: 5, Insightful

As both a computer and graphic arts professional. One's choice of imaging platform boils down to workflow and the Wintel platform is just not there yet. I use Photoshop 7 on both the Mac and WinXP platforms and yes Photoshop renders more quickly on the WinXP it is useless for finished work because of the virtual nonexistance of Color management for the PC platform. On the MAC calibration is easy so the Pantone (tm) color you see on the monitor is what comes off your proof printer and eventually comes off the phototypesetter. There are far more people with digital cameras and scanners on the PC platform BUT for professional use the Mac is the preferred platform due to the tight integration of color management into it's OS's whereas Wintel thinks color management is a add-on product and the results reflect this view
