Well, i'm not really sure how he gets a neutron from just H-2. But it might be that there are trace amounts of of Tritium (H-3) present, and fused with H-2 to create the neutron. that is: H-2 + H-3 = He-4 + n However, i'm not sure whether or not Tritium occurs naturally H-2 + H-2 = He-4 It could end up being that he is imparting the necessary 1.5 or so MeV needed to split the deuteron nucleus into normal H and a neutron...i dunno...i'm only a sophmore nuke E, but we just went over this in class...
