Now, Ubuntu basically has a chance to do this. Strip even more out of main - why is Inkscape there? How many Ubuntu users are also vector graphics artists? It's out of date already, and has been for months, yet you can get up to date packages direct from inkscape.org. Take it to the logical conclusion: make Ubuntu a base operating system that is super easy to extend, with only the basics in main (music player, web browser etc).
Now support 3rd party packaging, so users can go to inkscape.org if they want a graphical editor and install it straight from there. I think they should use autopackage to do that, but I'm biased. There could be any number of ways of doing it. The point is, stop being packagers and become OS developers.
To put it politely, get stuffed...;)
Ubuntu is NOT intended for rich Americans who happen to have always on broadband where this is a practicality... It ISintended for use in countries where any net connection is poor or non-existant and all the necessary software HAS to be installable from the one CD...
expect a sharp ramp up in anti Linux/FOSS lobbying from Microsoft via supposedly worried parties... all worried about the US's defence being trusted to a "commie OS" written by "hacker"s and other "hippy" malcontents...
did you actually read the article??? The binaries are able to run on this other kernel... it's not the Linux kernel that's being used here, only applications compiled to run on the Linux kernel... it's all about the ABI...
please use the full term... not ridiculous contractions... "Moho" is a contraction of "Mohorific discontinuity"... it is a boundary layer where seismic waves travel differently, and the conjecture is that on one side the medium is solid, and on the other side, the medium is "liquid"... that's all.
"I've had these nut jobs calling me at 11 o'clock at night," said DiDio.
Inconsiderate people call at 11:00 pm. Nut jobs call at 4 am, and tell you what you are wearing in your bed as they watch you through a telescope from the apartment across the street.
Damn... that must have been me ringing up at 4 am UK time... I'd forgotten it was only 11 pm for her... I should have held off for another 5 hours...
so Smuckers process of cutting and crimping is NOT novel.
Any patent examiner with half a brain should have thrown Smuckers out of the door. Sadly, it looks like they found one of the ones with only a quarter of a brain...
there is prior art... the Breville Sandwich Toaster. Its plates "cut, crimp and seal" the edges of the sandwich when you close the top and bottom together... it doesn't have to be turned on to do this either, just closing the two halves does this. And to round it off, Smuckers, is most probably in breach of a Breville patent...
you do realise that ms-windows is just as handicapped out of the box. It too, can't play DVDs or see Linux partitions... (to play DVDs in ms-windows, you have to have a licensed codec. That normally comes on the driver disk with your dvd drive if they've bundled a DVD player such as power dvd with it, or else has been pre-installed as part of the OEM bundle. Out of the box, as supplied by Microsoft, ms-windows cannot play DVDs)
of course they're a threat... any place where the general public can get hold of music that is an alternative is a threat to the commercial publishers desparate to push their pap on everybody... that last thing they want is the public experiencing real music...
no, die hard Mac fans and die hard microsofties will never be satisfied... we get them all the time in here complaining about this or that feature of Linux whenever something new likelooking glass desktop or that "wobbly windows" thing
Thanks... I was steeling myself to enabling the Marrilat repositories for installing that one... probably find it's upgraded itself behind my back over the past couple of nights... I've had a hard time keeping up with the flood in the last week...
yes... so many "Public Houses" in the UK actually restrict the use of their toilet facilities to patrons only... I mean, what else is a Public House but a place for the public??? And finding a restroom in most shops is impossible... the facilities are for staff only
I've got some bad news for you... it is an OS for everyone... well, not quite... die hard Mac fans and Microsofties will hate it... those sort are never pleased with anything different...
can I use this Ruby on Rails to write ordinary applications like I can with java... you know, ones that you don't require a browser or a server for... totally standalone, ordinary, quick and dirty personal type programs, like I used to hack up in superbasic in the good ol days on my QL???
some Mod got out of bed the wrong side today... or else fell for one of the pranks... or else can't stand to see jibes at his favourite email client...

I seem to recall that was exactly what that NYC fireman said out loud when a jet airpliner smacked into one of the Twin Towers...

mr Coward... I have owned Breville Sandwich toasters since 1980... goodnight.

a little less biased term would have been "Corporate Linux Advocate" or "Corporate Linux Evangelist".
I suppose you could have been far more biased and used "Corporate Linux Zealot" though...
Here is a corrected link to the Fluendo press release...

actually, I think it's quite amusing really, as it means that those mods missed the original posting of that article on Friday and fell for it...
light-sabre guy is in the queue????
that's why I put a winking smilie at the end of my post...
and KDE org have just started shifting their entire source tree to bitkeeper as well... ;)

1) Produce email software with massive security problems... .....
2) Ignore your customers complaints about fixing it...
3)
4) Profit
but she is... that's what's so strange about this image of her... she's fully clothed... even got knickers on for a change...
