As a fellow "I'll take a semester^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hyear^H^H^H^Hwhile off victim, I have to ask, don't you think you're just deluding yourself about freedom of thought and making yourself feel better about not getting a degree, even though it would probably have been beneficial?

Of course you're not seeking jobs where a degree would have mattered, because you don't like looking into the lifeless eyes of the person in front of you when they ask,"Why didn't you get a degree?" when you know no explanation you could give will satisfy them.

Freedom of thought is only broken when you have bad teachers who drill awful things into you. If you were at a school that was right for you, I don't think you would have lost your freedom of thought.

Of course, who am I to talk. :-)

RedHat and Mandrake's answer to jumpstart (wonder how they came up with the name :-) ). You have 1 server dedicated to being the jumpstart server, and then boot each machine off a specially made floppy. You can do multiple machines at once. The machines can be set to boot off dhcp after that, and you ssh in and tweak things out. You can set them with a static, but then the floppy has to be customized for each static address, which is a pain, and relatively or you can set them with a static, but then the floppy has to be customized for each static address, which is a pain, and relatively pointless for a mass installation

I'm not sure if the machines can get an IP address through dhcp while loading packages, which would mean the floppies couldn't be clones of each other, but clones minorly modified. I think they can get from dhcp while loading, but I'm not certain.

I've loaded 20 machines in one day using this.

We never had them reboot automatically, because we needed to eject the floppies, but if you make CD images, you can probably figure a way to eject them and then they will load off the HD correctly on the reboot.

You can also use the same jumpstart server with floppies customized for different machines if you have clusters of machines with different baseline package sets.

Drawbacks: It works over nfs (not sure if there are other delivery methods), which you would want to firewal off at the router.

Random nice things: you can put the passwd files on the floppy, which is more secure than having `them fly across the netowrk, methinks. It does mean you need to take care with the floppies, however.

he number of skin-jobs, though, really is a continuity error, not a hint as the article implies. There was originally another replicant named "Mary" who they eventually decided to cut out of the film before any of her scenes were shot, but the screenwriter didn't catch the change. In the workprint version, it was actually recorded correctly as "two got fried" (instead of just one), but they botched it again on the release print. Of course, they might've noticed the error later and left it in to stir the debate.

They also tried to change it in post production dubbing, but it was apparently bad enough that they left it in with the continuity error, which says a lot when you see the dubbing job in Hassim's shop.

That's a very good point. I've seen pages that use more than a dozen shim/spacer images just to line things up. If I have to wade through hundreds of "spacer" alts while using Lynx, I'll stab someone. If the image is just there for spacing (I hate the practice, and I still have nightmares about working in that web-design shop), a competent HTML producer can through in ALT="", and let the normal images show up for somethings.

I hate this practice of over-using images. Text is easy to understand. Why must we go against it?
