Since then we've been living through almost two centuries of a bogus division between technical and humanistic cultures, mainly propagated by the humanists -but it can also be said that scientists have failed to understand the importance of humanities eg. only rational logical experimentation and deductive logic can present to us "Reality" -emotion, religion, the human condition are all scorned as not properly applying to this quest...

Science has also done it's fair share of fence building. It is way to simplistic to say oh it's "THEIR" fault because you just happen to subscribe to the belief's of one side or the other.

Scientists have always read (and written) good novels, appreciated great art and music etc - yes but they don't believe that any of these things explain existence only SCIENCE does.

Just look at the /. community someone mentions a religious idea or something shock horror "unscientific" and they are ridiculed for being for want of a better term LUDDITES.

Because nothing explains things like SCIENCE does, I know you agree....

The existing system is flawed, and the only way to work it out is to, as Chuck D of Public Enemy put it, "Fight the power! Fight the powers that be!" - no offense to the D man who I hold in awe above any rapper on the planet but have you ever checked out who they are distributed by

Ever heard of Rick Rubin, Def-Jam records. Are these people small backdoor operations I think not.

As a proffesional musician (eg. I make more than 70% of my income this way whilst studying at University) I have always found it funny that people believe there is such a thing as non-commercial music. Come on! How the hell would they ever have been heard in the first place. Even PUBLIC ENEMY distribute their albums through the major players in the music business. Yes for the fans you might believe their is some small backyard operation but really this small company is being financed by a major player eg. SONY, ROADRUNNER,GEFFEN etc.....

As far as I know you can buy PE - posters, t-shirts and albums at large COMMERCIAL venues such as HMV etc. I know I have a PE poster on my wall and a t-shirt and all their albums.....

No disrespect to your comments but it is about time people realise that if you want to be an "entertainer there is a price to be paid. If you are really playing music for yourself sit in a garage and be really "alternative" (that title makes me laugh) you don't need people to listen to you or appreciate you but if you want your music heard bite the fucking bullet.

Totally agree with the list that you made.

AKIRA - is definately better read than seen even though the anime blew me away the first time I saw it on the big screen

I would add in 2 more titles as absolute classics:

Any in the WOLF\LUPIN III - especially the CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO - this is a definate ANIME masterpiece - held up by such western directors as Steven Spielberg (who thought it had the best car chase ever!) These are mostly movies but your local BLOCKBUSTER should also have the series containing 1/2 hour TV episodes.....

ROBOTECH\MACROSS - the one that started all the hype about large robots and their "Days of Our Live" plots for the pilots. Bloody good.

WICKED CITY - wicked as the title suggests.

WINGS OF HOMMENAISE - think I spelt it right. This has one of the best story lines that I have seen

Don't forget to check out your comic book stores. There are some awesome STAR WARS titles done like ANIME as well as SPIDERMAN- which although has shonky character drawing has some awesome backgrounds.
Just my 2 cents worth which will be seasonally adjusted by 10% once we bring in the GST in July down here in OZ...

How can you go from talking about "And it was simple math that did it" - to saying that the Earth is 6000 years old. By the way your claims are less scientifically valid than DINOSAURS.

You sir are a complete moron and are probably rank amongst the geniuses that are trying to ban evolution from school education. Why not argue about the contencious issues of proper science - I too have problems with modern paeleontology and archaeology but they are scientific concerns. I don't need to talk about men that lived for 900 years and Bishop Usher's stupid predictions, floods and 7 day creations.

Perhaps you can do yourself a real favour go back and read the BIBLE in Hebrew and check out Kabbalah research you will see that most of your stories are just that. The BIBLE is alot more clever than morons such as yourself.

And yes I am a Christian and also a scientist but one that will not be associated with morons such as yourself and would rather look at God's amazing and unexplainable Universe using the brains and intelligence that he gave us!!

Not being an Astrophysicist I can conclude that this could not be the only reason that gravity was more\less. Take for example the alignments of planets in our solar system like the interesting "Revelations-like" astronomical conjunction in May. Even though some planets where closer to Earth they did not have a combination effect on gravity
