Not sure I understand your point....
No, we don't have a lot of power cuts, but that doesn't mean we won't as everything carries on working until it breaks. Unfortunately a new power supply infrastructure cannot be bought in the local supermarket and must be looked after.
My point was that lack of maintenance over a period causes the kind of outages this thread is discussing. Trees and bushes take time to grow, and we are beginning to see the effects.
FWIW Customer service is at an all time low, callout response is very poor as the call centre is now miles away and the staff there have no idea of the local geography.
I used more or less the same amount of electricity in the two periods and strangely if I had stayed employed by them, my pension would be index linked and considerable better than the one I am expecting to receive.
It's been coming for a long time.
When I worked for the local "Electricity Board" here in the UK, we had some 20 linesmen almost permanently employed cutting and trimming trees which threatened the overhead lines.
There were still faults but these usually only occurred in extreme weather conditions.
Nowadays I hear there are just 2 staff allocated to tree cutting in our region - and one of those is the supervising engineer......
PS. Checking an old bill, I find that I pay the same per month now as I did almost 5 years ago.
I too ordered one a week or so ago and Apple have done the decent thing and upgraded my 15Gb model to a 20Gb with no effort, apart from an email, from me.
Fair I thought.
i'm a ham and never bother turning on my rig anymore....
Same here, well actually it's because the home wireless network renders anything up to 30MHz unreadable!
Did you think about "rebudgetting" this thing?
You say the problem is on the utility incoming cables - Surely if you are connecting mass storage equipment there is a UPS somewhere in there?
If not this may be the chance to install one and mop up the mess at the same time. It also give you the chance to "hide" the costs of the repair and improve the system.
Many UPS include distribution panels ready cabled so they would do away with many of the problems you have.
Hmmm, my son has cameras at his school in the UK. They are well hidden - so much so that even the head and the teachers have no idea where they are!
Shock, horror - well not really, the kids have them in their phones or maybe have 3 minute digital video devices about the size of pens. They take great delight in recording the actions of the teacher(s) and postingthe results to their personal web pages...
Little brother is watching too.....
.... and it should be community service for those who don't Bcc.
It is.

And both, presumably, have plenty of punch...
