  1. Re:Ghost in the Shell on Augmented Reality In a Contact Lens · · Score: 1

I'm just worried that when this technology becomes plausible for the average consumer, we'll see an upswing in spontaneous Sumerian glossolalia. Never accept an AR e-mail titled "HYPERCARD: Snow Crash". Ever.

  2. Gamer Love? on Nintendo Gets Suggestive with DS Marketing · · Score: 0, Redundant

Hmm. With taglines like "touching is good," it sounds to me like all the desperate gamers out there are already hooked ;-)

This brings back memories of my IT buddies getting drunk and having "taste tests" with the different Mac designer colors. Eerily accurate...

  4. Re:Don't expect leadership from the U.S. governmen on Iranian Bloggers Arrested · · Score: 1

I agree that nothing can be expected from the US, but give these people a break! Contrary to popular belief, they can't be the world's police right now. If American forces headed into Iran, it would just mean more death. Pronunciation of Farsi words really has nothing to do with competence, though. I don't like Bush very much, but I don't think his language skills apply to his (less than spectacular) tactical ability. They're probably just a part of his "endearingly southern" political image.

  6. My greatest fear on Detailed Changes In Star Wars DVD Release w/Pics · · Score: 2, Funny

Honestly, I think that somewhere in George Lucas' fragmented mind, motivation is building to remake Episodes IV-VI. Notwithstanding that this is the worst thing that could happen to the series, I think we could expect some "great" innovations, like Jerry Springer making a cameo to help out with the Skywalker family issues.

  7. Re:Crush on Spam's U.S. Roots · · Score: 1

There's your problem... I saw a guy who was sending out massive amounts of spam on the news. He lived in this little trailer in the woods (not even kidding) and every bit of free space was taken up by a computer or some cables. He said that anti-spam was not only infringing on his free speech, but it was ruining what he thought was *an honest way to make a living.* So, if he's invoking the First Amendment on us, there's not much we can do - unless this falls under the Patriot Act somehow.

  8. Re:I'm confused on Spam's U.S. Roots · · Score: 5, Insightful

Spam doesn't come under the same fire as P2P because it *promotes* consumerism and the "entertainment" industry, whereas file sharing circumvents the mass market etc. completely. Ergo, most of the war on spam is fought by the people - no one on top of the dogpile wants to regulate advertising. Besides, there are anti-spam filters being sold all over the place. That's another way to capitalize on the phenomenon.

  9. Arcades will never die on Arcade Show Report Shows Coin-Op Endurance · · Score: 1

It's not possible for consoles to kill arcades completely, because there's no social factor. Even online video games don't offer the chance to play stuff like Tekken against somebody standing next to you. Smack-talk is nearly impossible, as well. The arcade tournament is another benefit. You can't just stand next to your console waiting for challengers, unless you live in the middle of a mall or something. As long as gamers need to feel like they have friends, arcades will be around;)

  10. MS vs. the world on Lindows Takes a Hit in the Netherlands · · Score: 1

It seems to me that if Microsoft spent even half as much time and effort on improving their products as they did on legal issues, they would have an actually decent product. First all the crap with the monopoly, and now they're chasing Lindows... meanwhile, there's new windows problems all the time, and they just sit there and tell you to upgrade with another lame product. The whole thing was probably better when it was just a handful of guys working in the garage. It should've stayed that way.

  11. Re:congressional authority on U.S. Court Blocks Anti-Telemarketing List · · Score: 1

I think it is. Regardless of whether this list gets shot down, there's bound to be some initiative from the general public to get the list (re?)instated. People are behind this 100%, and there's nothing illegal about it.
