would love to implement Bugzilla for issue tracking but statements like this - 'Making Bugzilla work on Windows is still a painful processes.' in the OS-Specific installation notes don't make it seem reasonable.
Why don't you TRY to install and run it on a Windows box, and IF it doesn't work, get back to us. I read yesterday that there are THOUSENDS of people that have been abducted by aliens. Doesn't make it so.
Do they even use "Big Iron" for web servers? Very much? Aren't they all mostly SPARCs or Vanila Intel? File serving and number crunching would be the standard "Big Iron" useage, right?
What fellow programmers want in a co-worker (experience!!!) and what hiring managers want (paper!!!) are obviously two different things. Hiring managers hire, so go for the more well-known university paper if you want a well paying job.
The most important thing in the market today is experience. Go look on Monster or any of the other sites right now, and you'll see one phrase quite a bit -...or equivalent experience.
You may see "or equivalent experience", but that's not most employers first choice. In most cases the degree does have significant weight, and given two people who are more or less equal, the guy with paper will win. Likewise, between the guy with a second tier state university CS degree will lose to the guy who went to a big name public university or well know private university.
Sorry, but it's a tough market out there, and if you ever want to be more than just a coder making half decent monkey money, you better go for the well known school.
Each day until December 25, Mark will post a review of some Perl module he finds useful.
Each day until December 25, the Slashdot "editors" will post one or more irrelevant / Slashvert / duplicate / full of spelling and grammatical errors / leftist tripe / Roland Piquepaille self promotion...
Isn't it a bit late to be worrying about The Government tracking us by our Social Security Numbers? If anything, this database would be redundant, we are already tracked by Big Brother via our SSN.
Well, anyway, I found out (among many other things) that the LABEL would own the songs that *I* wrote, *I* paid to record, and *I* payed to produce, and *I* paid to market.... so tell me, why do *THEY* get all the money?
*Perhaps* this is because *that's the deal* that *your band* *agreed to* when *you* *signed* the *contract*. It's *the price* for a *chance* at *major label* fame and *fortune*!
Your comments are bogus. While Green Hill's comments have always been self serving, your comments are no less self serving, and really a bit of a red herring.
Green Hills is a well known US government contractor, not a "random small commercial software company".
Of course everything they say is self-serving, but none the less, "random small commercial software company" they are not.
No, actually "we" don't. Mind pointing out that section of the MS site? I couldn't find a thing about an expiration date or that this was a "time limited" beta.
I take it you have NEVER installed a Microsoft Beta before???
Funny thing! If you write software for Windows platforms (and GOSH! many of us do! It is still the King of Corporate!). Some people might be interested.
It's nice that some people spend their time coding FOSS, but guess what? A lot of spend their days working in Windows shops (OH! The humanity of it!).
And imagine that! When you build software for Windows, sometimes you use Visual Studio! Even more SHOCKING is that not all coders that build Windows apps are hacks! Secret: sometimes they actually build half-decent apps!
P.S. Still can't figure out why cybershitter blocks a credit card merchant site, but I just told her to disable the software when she logged in to do CC stuff.
If the particular CC company is used by porn sites to process payments, that might just be the reason!
As a side note, saying stuff like that is the fastest way for someone to get a linux "guru" to answer their question. If they just ask instead of being insulting, the "guru" says to RTFM or STFW (even if you've already done that and note it)... but if you insult the penguin and call it difficult, they get all hot and bothered and have to show you how stupid you are and how easy it is... and give you the answer you need.
I think with certain distributions that I cal "boutique", you can expect a fair number of issues like the one you describe. While Fedora is in many ways more "polished" than some, for a low stress install it is often best to go with something that is also being marketed commercially. I've installed RHEL3/AS a number of times with very few issues. Some of the BSDs (yes, yes, NOT Linux) are quite polished as well.
...because installing Linux* is the closest I ever got to S&M...
I've never experienced any significant problems with clean installs of any of the several Linux flavors that I've installed. Personally (and what other kind would I think?), I think people that say this are full of shit, or have the IT skills of your basic Windows user.
Wait. you wouldn't draw a conclusion? Or are you drawing a conclusion? Or, Is it conclusions? Hard to tell...

No there is not. But than why would Slashdot allow that? Roland is paying for exposure!

When you pay people to "buy" your licenses, shouldn't it be possible to get more than just a few bites?
That's a good question. I don't know, and I think not many here know, what that certification actually means. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks for your input!
OMG! You're running MCE and you are posting here? What are you? Some kind of TROLL???

We all do understand that MS betas have a limited life span, right? Good deal? Well, as long as it works, but... MS betas eventually die.
SECOND Slashvert (tm) in as many days!

Exactly.

Interestingly, many of the pages at the OSC web site do not validate using the W3C XHTML validation link at the bottom of all the pages.
NICE troll.
It's made of SOY BEANS! How can you beat that?
