  1. Am I the only one... on Dune Scores Huge Ratings · · Score: 2
Who found it is bizzare and funny that how Fremen with only sharp knifes can fight and even defeat squads of well trained soldiers?

I just started the first chapter of the original book. I am still looking for a reasonable explanation instead of some weird supernatural power Paul(muad'ib) holds that make his men 10 times stronger and invicible.

    Now down to acting:

Like some other posts have pointed out before me, Paul was a naturalborn leader. But instead in the mini-series, he looks like a crazy religious psycho to me. I can stand all other characters, but paul, man, I would go straight up and beat the crap out of the guy if i see him in real life. He is *That* annoying.

  2. Typical Slashdotters(include the almighty Taco) on Why Linux Lovers Jilt Java · · Score: 1

I dont mean any disrespect, but Taco really shouldn't flame the forum with all his little petty, biased opinions. He knows that how his opinion would affect the forum and he didn't hesitate to use his power. For the user of java, I found it amazing that everyone, I repeat, everyone who dislike java is the sysadmin people, the inexperienced, the poor one who either can't program code longer than 100 lines in a language other than perl or can't afford the expensive java development package used mainly in enterprise environment. You know how much money a good java developer is gonna make in wall street? probably double your pay. Anyway, this java flame war is pointless. As what I see, the true software architect uses java because it can easily construst large softwares, other than spending all your time debugging in the mud and myth of C++/C.(the horror of malloc and pointers!)

It is easy, you use CXterm, a special program developed to input chinese under X. And there are a number of other programs you can use to input chinese under UNIX's console mode as well.

    You are wrong.

The majority of the chinese users input their chinese as GB encoded.

It is a pain in the butt to have two different type of encoding system.

  5. Why do they have to care? on Politicians, Napster, And The Invention Of The Net · · Score: 4

President of United States of America or any other country's leader is NOT a geek. He does not have to understand what OSS really means and what p2p is. There are much much more important issues than napster to be considered first, such as education, before american kids become the dumbest on the planet(well, some already are, and they troll on slashdot), environment protection, health care, tax cut, etc. heh, I could use a couple of extra thousands every year to go to vacation while the rest of the trolls moaning over their loss of access to mp3s on slashdot.

It is funny how many slashdotters look no further from the gigantic computer monitor right in front of them.

  6. Turning off napster = more bandwidth for us on Compressed Beyond Recognition: An MP3 Compendium · · Score: 3

Napster has loomed over my school's network for months. At some bad time, I access my hotmail account on a speed of 1.4k/sec through a multi-T1 outlink. It is really a relieve for all the people who use their bandwidth for legitimate and educational purposes. Besides, let's face it, most of the Napster users are shameless leeches who want to get the music for "free".

  7. Alternative solution on Open Sourcing Closed Sourced Drivers? · · Score: 1
Instead of releasing the source code, why can't the company adopt an alternative solution such as keeping a linux maintenance team that makes sure that the driver works for all distributions and all recent released kernels?

Also, can't linux kernel(distribution) programmers have some kind of industry standard that makes writing drivers and making them work wouldn't be the worst nightmare for a hardware company?

    Just my 2 cents

I think you would be surprised to see how low the living expense is you will need to live in, say, Beijing for a month. It might be one of the dumbest ideas I ever heard of on slashdot. Just tell me *WHY* do you want a keyboard for a palm? If the keyboard is big enough to be used comfortably for an editor that requires a lot of keystrokes, why don't you just carry a laptop? People present stupid ideas why they stop thinking "differently". That applies everywhere, windows or linux.

Well, if a free software crashes 3 times in a hour, I would say it sucks no matter how free it is. Opera is a software company who is trying to make a living out of writing good softwares. What's the matter with you free software zealots? Is it just that you are too cheap to pay for that $35 registration fee to support the company?? Get a job, and stop spending $$$ on beers. Alcohol kills your brain, as if it is not bad enough already.
