  1. Re:why geek chicks? on Online Romance - For Good or Evil? · · Score: 1

    Agreed.

The point of dating is to find someone that you can talk to, and enjoy spending time with, not necessarily someone that has the same goals and ideals as you. I find great pleasure in discussing things with women, and the best discussions come from women with brains that have different interests. Some of the smartest people I have ever met are English majors, and just because she says she "hasn't thought about it" doesn't mean she hasn't -- it may mean she wants to skip all the talk and hit the sack.

Just because she's an english major doesn't mean the two of you can't carry on a conversation, in fact, its the best way I can think of to ask a person a million personal questions without getting personal. "have any hobbies", "anything that you REALLY hate?", "favorite color", "favorite TV show", "Favorite band" -- if she answers "backstreet boys", run like the wind, she's underage.

Unless it all bombs horribly, you'll probably remain friends at least a bit, and if you ask the right questions, she may know a friend or a relative that "might like you".

As lame as this really is, dating is a game, a game you HAVE to play to go anywhere.

The point: Don't stereotype, and don't read anything into what anyone says, unless there is some suggestive body language or tone of voice added in.

  2. why geek chicks? on Online Romance - For Good or Evil? · · Score: 1

I don't understand why geek guys always seek geek women, why do we make that a requirement? Is it because we want to 'talk geekspeak' with someone that can do the same? To me that's what LUGs and Slashdot are for. Maybe I'm not a true geek, but I DO NOT want a woman that is computer savvy, I want a woman with a life, and has girly stuff to talk about like who did who at her workplace. Two people of the same career, no matter what it is in the same house always creates problems if there is any differnece in opinion on something, or even if there isn't. I always got tired of a former GF and me always bitchin' about the same stupid stuff, from different offices. If you already understand where the other person's coming from, then there's really nothing to talk about, and communication is the bond that holds two people together. I don't know about the rest of you, but I love it when a woman is nothing like me, it is so fascinating to see a woman do something I have no idea about. Food for thought I guess, but don't make the mistake of limiting yourself to a particular career to choose your mate.

That's exactly right. Lets not forget about the baseline quality and stability of other MS products. MSSQL7 does /not/ stand out as a superior product, in any way. Even Oracle is faster than MSSQL. And MySQL blows it away. Don't bother with the reverse psychology on SlashDot, AC, it doesn't work.
