I think it was Zed Shaw I saw somewhere pointing out it was all the career paths other than programming that could really benefit from a little scripting knowledge. Many small often repeated tasks in every profession that can be automated. Information that is checked regularly that can be put on the desktop with widget.
I can use any OS for a couple hours, but linux font readability becomes an issue on long multi-hour sessions. The font readability for linux browsers and e-book readers in long term use is still a barrier. I can read MS ClearType fonts almost as well as I can read the printed page
While you and your friends were not paying any attention to current events, commercial banks got deregulation passed in the late 90's that them gamble with YOUR checking accout balance like a investment banker? They fucked up so bad they crashed the world's economy and doubled out debt in less than 15 years
Being uninformed is NOT cool.
The protest movement against what those criminals bankers is all being organized online.
It's not the nuclear missiles to blame for the threat of mutual assured destruction, it's all that the fault of Gene Hackman, Denzel Washington and the rest of that nuclear sub crew.

I read a lot. Both books and online. I bought a Kindle just because of the better ebook fonts. Linux fonts are still an issue for long term use. More than a couple hours reading a browser or ebook on a linux distro and I'm getting headaches from eyestrain. I can read books all day on Win 7.

Broadcasting the live recordings of musicians was stealing from their musicians.
Sheet music was stealing from musicians before radio.
Dude watched too many hacker movies. You can only get away with crap like that if you look like Sandra Bullock or Anna Chapman.

"I was recently on a conference call with 18 cities across the country who had the same situation," Ms Quan told the BBC.
