I guess you're not a gamer. There's still no better gaming platform out there than Windows.
I also use Windows for Visual Studio, although when I'm developing something cross-platform I tend to write it in Xcode and just use Visual Studio to make Windows builds.
XBMC on an Xbox 1 handles up to 720p content wonderfully.
To handle real-time 1080i or 1080p decoding, you're going to need a pretty decent PC instead.

Huh, my Xbox with XBMC handles 720p just fine. It chokes on 1080i though; it's nowhere near powerful enough to decode that real-time.
