Defensive patents on foo are not used exclusively stop another company from claiming ownership of foo. Rather they defend against trivial infringment claims on bar and baz. I won't sue you over the trivial pattents I hold, to prevent you from suing me over the trival pattents you hold. It's kina like MAD. Jeff

I like this. Don't think of it as something to replace a mirror, but at something to replace the tv. During the vast majority of the time, when the tv is off, you have a (hopefully) shiny mirror instead of an ugly piece of electronics on the wall.

  6. Enhanced Gravity on 'Mouse-Tronaughts' to Test Low-Gravity in Space · · Score: 4, Interesting

In high school I did a project which involved growing plants in simulated hypergravity (produced by centripetal acceleration), then tried to extrapolated into the low gravity regime.

Up to 140% of normal, the plants grew faster with increasing "gravity". From this I reasoned that lower gravity conditions (moon, mars) would be healthy for plants.

Of course, NASA's results may vary. Especially when using mice.

Also, you can use mathematical models to prove that math is not consistent... Read up on Godel's Theorems.

Godel's Theorem doesn't prove that mathematical systems are inconsistant. Rather Godel showed that a system can't be proved conistant within itself.

The diference is that Godel says you (in important casess) can't be sure math is consistant. He does not say that math is inconsistant.

We're getting closer and closer to the days when humans won't be able to compete with computer's at chess. Even so I don't think this is such a big deal. We haven't be able to compete with computers at arithmetic for half a century and this doesn't bother anyone.

Losing to computers in chess will be like losing to calculators in a addition match. People and computers aren't really in competition. They do very different things.

Smaller form factor and colors. For a lot of people this stuff really really matters.

I run and I would much rather carry the Mini, than a full size ipod. Plus, I only have 3 gigs of music, so I really wound't get much more value out of a 40 gig player.

I believe the original poster is referring to economic, not thermodynamic efficiency. Pulse power reactors (like Z) are expected to be much cheaper to operate (per watt output) than machines like ITER.

Yes, but fusion power plants and their byproducts will be dangerous for less than fifty years after decommissioning, vs thousands of years for fission power plants.
