Actually, I am... not that it's an incredibly hard technology to learn. I rather doubt that _which_ text editor I used changes that, though.
[flamemebaby] Incidently, what's wrong with PICO for a very basic text editor? I suppose I could use vi, but I refuse to, just like I no longer use copycon for DOS! [/flamemebaby]
I'm quite proud to say that I don't know how to use dreamweaver, and I'm a web developer. I learned with notepad and pico, and I still code by hand (although now with Homesite).
I've been on interviews where I had to convince the interviewer that I was a competent developer, despite not knowing FP or dreamweaver.
Off the topic, can anyone recommend a good HTML editor for linux? Something like Homesite in terms of features (coloring, validation) would be nice.
I think that the only real difference between OO and Star Office is that OO is missing proprietary file format converters. But, it got the pretty seagull logo...
Ok, I REALLY hate people who bitch about moderation, but they guy (not I, I refuse to use XP) was expressing an opinion politely. How the hell is this flamebait? Moderators, try using the 'logic' part of your brain over the 'politics' part, please.
While many (most?) people are willing to steal movies, music, etc. , making them available via the internet is a good way to sell a few copies, and have 100X as many pirated.
Unfortunately, the trends on the net have become 'if I can steal it, I have a right to it' and 'Not every track on that CD is great, why should I pay for it?'. With such a selfish public mindset, the companies are wise to avoid the net right now.
And _please_ don't give me the 'sharing encourages purchases' argument. I was in school during the heyday of Napster. I _know_ how many people have massive collections of stolen music w/no intent to buy. It wasn't sampling, it was theft.
Now, who wants to be the first to mod me flamebait/troll for expressing an anti-theft position?
No, it's true that jokes contain innate power. When one of my favorite jokes was deemed ' funniest in the world' (the 'make sure he's dead. bang' one), it suddenly ceased to be funny. Very sad.
Eh, some of the all time classic SF writes are most famous for their series work. In particular, Asimov often wrote stories in the same universe, if not with the same characters. I am thinking primarily of the robot/empire/foundation series. There must have been 30 unrelated robot stories that had common characters from US Robots and Mechanical Men in them.
For anyone who is a SF buff, I suggest getting some collections of old 40's/50's short stories. Wonderful stuff, although sometimes they don't work as the science in them is wrong (having advanced by 50 years).
Also (and not so flippantly), trucks are more likely to roll or go out of control, so it makes sense that there are a significant # of deaths. Driving safely mitigates most of that, luckily.
Of course, with all the SUVs on the road now, my advantage is much less.
The overall theme of "shame on you for not living as efficiently as possible" is getting kinda old in this thread. The real world isn't black and white, y'know, so I'm disinclined to have that pissing contest.
However, I will answer your questions.
1) I had (no longer, replaced the vehicle) a dual (20/18) tank pickup truck. Why not fill it with gas? 2) I don't fit in most cars comfortably (I'm 6'5", and trucks are about all I easily can drive) 3) Mountain Dew is indeed not a health food, thanks for the clinical advice. 4) Other than me not fitting, mini-trucks are underpowered for moving things and are scarcely better than a sedan in crashes. 5) I drive a large (Dodge Ram 1500) truck specifically because I'd prefer to be the stronger car in an accident. I don't wanna die unless I have to. so sue me:)
I can appreciate all the 'damn the gas guzzlers' sentiment I hear. I think much more of it comes from people being annoyed about the driving habits and visibility issues, of trucks and SUVs than with efficiency. I do wish folks would get off their soapbox and let other people do as they wish. I gave up expecting a perfect world (and expecting people to act as I wish) a long time ago.
Lets not and say we did... there are a lot of vehicles, mostly trucks, that just can't get away with running a 2 litre engine. They need that power to achieve their primary purpose.
Now, if someone put out a decent hybrid pickup (maybe diesel/electric?), I'd be game. But just making gas more expensive isn't a valid solution.
(and from personal experience, when gas prices go up 20 cents in a month, like they did recently in CA, and you carry 38 gallons of fuel, it gets expensive. That money coulda gone to important things, like Mountain Dew!
Heh, these days I woulda exported the table as text, and let a little perl script convert it. Unfortunately i didn't have that weapon in my quiver at the time.
An AOL tool makes clean code... I am shocked and awed...
I one time had to (per instructions from the boss) get a 20 page word document (almost entirely a table) on our website within an hour, in HTML format. Ashamedly, I used 'save as HTML', but inserted a comment saying 'my boss made me do it' just in case anyone looked:)
Unfortunately, you run a risk of leaving some folks with an unreadable page if their browser doesn't support CSS correctly.
I am a big CSS fan (having recently finally relented and converted my websites to use it), but the implementations are still varied.
What's sad is that SO MANY pages have this extra WYSIWYG garbage code in 'em. I was recently looking at job postings (JSP/ASP/CGI/Perl/Java/Hire Me!) and damned near every one had 'must be able to hand code'. Interestingly, the higher end jobs (like more hardcore java developers) are particularly lacking in this skill. Kind sad, it's like Steven King being a novelist, but not able to write complete sentences.
Thank you! I'm trying those both out right now.
The only reasons I'm still using winders on a regular basis now is the homesite/topstyle pro combo... if I can find substitutes, I'm golden.

well, yes, running a line cross country, and FILLING that country with infrastructure are orders of magnitude different, no?

Thanks, but as an AC?
Does $1/album seem like a fair return on the artist/company's time to you? Seems a bit low to me.
there we go...

I've never understood that. I've seen a few truck on car accidents, and the truck almost always ends up on top (literally) of the car...

I can find fault. They make a mess splattered against the grill of my truck...
I saw a lincoln towncar (with a towing hitch) hauling a 25' speedboat once... very odd.

Heh... I have an old square 3 button from my ex's 286, it's part o' my linux box at home.
$5 says that the first one is probably still functional...
Nah, he means the [oops, HTML gets filtered] tag :)
Jim Ladd (LA D.J.) runs a disclaimer before his show that includes:
"Not only didn't we inhale, we didn't exhale. Even if we had inhaled, which we didn't, we have more lawyers than a small country"
