I was a victim of this crime from 86 - 99 without ever knowing it.... I cant even get a credit report because the info on mine is soo skewed it doesnt reflect that I am even who I am.
I now use other names and heavy encryption to stay safe.
I only pay in cash.
I'm quite paranoid.
Dont let it happen to you.
well, the Henry Ford Mueseum is worth seeing in Dearborn, MI, but it is a little pricey....
For something more interesting and cheaper, I recomend the TreeHouse on Mooney St. in farmington MI (15-20 NW of Detroit).
The owner is a pre-geek geek... dual PHD'd in the late 20's early 30's, he spent his life reasearching what we all call wierd science...
Solid Matter travel, anti-gravity, Orgonne and Atlantean Electronics.....
Make sure you ask him about the Atlantean Origin of the word "fuck"....
Seriously....
It was a key part of their scientific practices appararently... And the definition has nothing to do with what you think it does.....
Go ahead and laugh, but I work for a company that still writes/maintains qbasic software and sells it to unsuspecting clients for $50,000 bucks a pop. I think we need a "software purchasing for dummies" book
Expect it. Its why they adopted Acrobat and why they started to finally switch to Photoshop 6, let alone 7.....
As soon as a customer shows up with a new quark document and they need 2M 12x18 out on the Heidelberg Di64-4, they will order it and have it shipped over night, just so they can take the job....
I did a concise writup of the available solutions for using VB in Linux over at the linuxcult (linuxcult.com) site.. While the slashdot dictators didnt see fit to post it, you may find it an interesting read. It's entitled Basically Speaking... You can find it in an index over there....
Everyone into good sci-fi has to read Stranger in a Strange Land atleast once in their life.
A great author of Non-Geek oriented books that no one seems to mention is George Peleconos its good gritty fiction thats just great. I got hooked on his wriring a few years ago, none of his books have dissapointed me yet.
Also, if you're not well acquinted with the works of the good Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, I recommend that you get to know him as soon as possible. Very good stuff. Plus after reading some of his writing you must check out the Doonsbury collection of the Uncle Duke strips to see Trudeau's take on Thompson, plus the doonsbury collection comes with a Hunter Thompson action figure, whats more geek thatn that, An Action Figure! with interchangable martini glass and chainsaw!
Along the same vein, Hakim Bey's TAZ, Temporary Autonomous Zones is a must read for anyone pondering the future of networks in general (all types of networks, not just computer.) Some of the technology is a bit dated, it was written in the mid 80's and comments on the bbs scene, but his ideas are still quite valid today.
I belive there's a version that was published that also includes his essays and communiques on Ontological Anarchism.
Probably one of the best fringe philosophers in print. You'll learn something from this one.....
We have seen 3 or four new world series inspired players a month showing up at our home game...some stay some dont... It really hasnt brought that much "extra " money to the table as even when the fish market was running low, we always had our feelers out for new player.... I dont know....If anything these new breed to TV Poker Players seem to have a few things in common, 1)They only know how to play Texas Hold'em, 2)They Love long Odds and inside draws and 3)they go all in alot and seem to think its really cool when they do.... oh and 4) they compare themselves to poker players i've never head about... i.e., "dude man nice try on the semi bluff with the trips man you were just like that asian guy who wears all the jewelry...Dude dude dude..." followed by lots of high fives... and this all revolved around the folks who lost the hand?!?
I dont know its amusing and they're easy fish for high low games..... Most have never even heard of anything but Texas and Five draw...blah.... I'm suffering from texas overkill....but if anyone wants an omaha high low game...get ahold of me
