Agreed. This game has gotten WAAY too much negative publicity. It's a fun single player game just by virtue of the varied situational firefights as well as great vehicles.
I know the sniper rifle is a staple of FPS games, but it's always fun no matter what. Yeah, the bad guys aren't varied at all, but it's no big deal. I get great performance in the game. I'll be trying the multiplayer out this weekend -- this is supposedly the best facet of the game.
Seriously, I downloaded 8 other videos of HL2 demo-ing at E3. These videos featured in depth gameplay and the voiceover of whoever was presenting for Valve Software. So you could see some really cool stuff. Like the Striders. The ant lions. The "gravity gun" as I like to call it is INSANE. There was a part in which Gordy was fighting a strider by using the gravity gun to hurl Marquee Sign Letters at the strider. Seriously cool. Their graphics engine, source, looks great.
I downloaded these from some BitTorrent site that i found in another forum. I don't have the links here at work, nor can i visit said site at work. Hopefully, someone else will read this post, and post links to these demo vids. They are about 30-40Mb in size, there are 8 of them. There is a point at which I even yelled, "OWNED!" while watching videos.
No doubt. My iPAQ comes with Pocket Windows and freezes up all the time. I mean, you really have to start from scratch every time that happens. Not all that useful...I see that the submission article about the software radio also had links for getting linux to run on your iPAQ.
Me thinks the iPAQ may become Linux based this weekend...
Anyone else do this here at/.?
I totally agree. At the very least, fundamentally the gov't should be utilizing open standards, and not necessarily/absolutely open source software. Now obviously open source software often is based upon open standards. Having said that, logically OSS becomes a solid candidate because it almost always is based on open standards.
So I don't think a commercial product that is based largely on open standards is a gov't no-no. In fact, the gov't could use any OSS or Commercial SW they see fit -- at least these 2 systems could communicate via the open standard.
Yeah. Agreed. I appreciate the indy effort, but only a few things are cool or well done. I happened to like Max Payne the game, and thought the director did a good job of keeping to the story of the game. I did like the murdered family scene. But the music? Honestly, that's terrible. I mean it detracts _so much_ from the short. The slow mo stuff looked amateur. But hey, 5 years ago maybe those effects would be impressive.
Also, not being knowledgeable about direction and camera work, there is probably a lot of effort that was put forth that I can't even begin to appreciate.
