"Capable of hitting a small number of targets per trip (with high turnaround times, to boot)."
I'm not quite sure that you know what you are talking about.
The normal interdiction weapons load for the B-2A is 12 JDAM (Joint-Direct Attack Munition). The JDAM is a GPS/INS guided 2000-lb bomb, amazingly accurate, as proven in combat over Kosovo. The B-2A can, consequently, hit 12 DIFFERENT targets in one sortie.
The BEST part is, we have our aircraft safe in the continental US, yet we can use them to bomb anywhere in the world, returning to their base in Missouri.
Another note:
The US Air Force has stated that they plan on having 90% of their aerial fleet UNMANNED by 2020. Generally, we are looking to get the pilot out of the cockpit, and in to a non-descript building on base, and out of harm's way. The USAF spends roughly over 1 million dollars on each individual pilot's training, and it doesn't pay to lose them in combat or accidents. Likewise, the next generation of UCAV allows the USAF to save tax payers money on life-support (everything from pressurization systems on aircraft, to packing parachutes).
Amazing - this is the first off-topic post I've found really COOL. =)
I'm a huge DeadHead myself, so seeing something like this is nice - even if Bruce Hornsby didn't play much of his stuff with the Dead. Although, "White Wheeled Limousine" sounds great when he plays it with The Other Ones.
BTW, did you happen to check out any of the Phil & Friends shows this summer with Bobby Dylan? I managed to get screwed out of seeing the two shows I had planned to catch.
Man, this whole thread makes me want to burst into tears.
I ran a ProBoard BBS starting back in '92 (at the height of the craze!).
FidoNET Node: 1:282/4097 I used to write ProBoard PEX files - C compiled into some kind of crazy object code.
Unfortunately, I never had the ubiquitous USR Courier. Twelve-year-old me was very happy with a USR Sportster on Node 1, and a Zoom (yeck!) 14.4 on Node 2.
As for TheDraw... Now that I think about it, that was amazingly complex for its age. I still remember those crazy font sets you could use (kind of drag-and-drop wise, if I remember correctly).
QMPro? I got into the BBS scene using ProComm, then QuickLink II, and ended with Terminate. I really loved Terminate - extremely powerful.
I live about 4 or 5 miles north of Hopkins - it is a western suburb of Minneapolis.
And there are about 60,000 people in the suburb I live in, not necessarily the 'small-town' atmosphere you were thinking.
Oh, and another misleading point: It is the county DA who is doing this, not some small township. Hennepin County (including Minneapolis and some of its suburbs - a few over a million folks) DA Amy Klobuchar has quite a bit of experience here.
The problem with mandatory boycotts if it is under investigation for antitrust, is that we begin assuming that you are guilty until proved innocent.
Also, this creates an even larger opening for corruption. Senator J. Doe of Minnesota, who receives funding from ABC Software, Inc. decides he will request investigation of BCD Software, Inc. which makes a rival product - and all this right at the time that the Department of Tomfoolery has decided to upgrade their widget-making software. With this new investigation, the DoT will be barred from purchasing the software from BCD. Hence, they lose a large contract, all because of political motivations - and you have to admit this curbs any kind of competition.
The last thing we need now is mandatory courses of action. Besides, what if the M$ (gasp) product is better than Corel WP?
I hereby declare a Jihad on personal opinion - we must all conform!
My home computer is just a lowly P166MMX, although I must say I've worked pretty hard to upgrade everything else (128MB PC100, SB Live!, V550 PCI), and I see absolutely no difference between this and my PII-450 at work (well, except that it has a cheap AGP card).
Of course, when I dual-booted FreeBSD (I need to buy a new MB/CPU so I can use this one as my router/server box), I couldn't even get the GLX drivers to compile - but that very likely is not only crazy mismatched patches, but also my relative inexperience with BSD.
I can understand where this fellow is coming from, as one must admit Windows driver support is generally quite a bit ahead of Linux (and for newer hardware, light-years ahead of FreeBSD). In fact, the whole reason why this is a W98 machine again is because I *REALLY* wanted to frag my brother-in-law on the LAN (made up of equally decrepit computers), as well as the need for office tools and so forth.
Now that I've gone off and written god knows what, I've again come to the conclusion that I really need a Linux box.
My personal machine is named Terrapin (and has been for a while).
I always alternate between Dead songs and famous British warriors/generals.
I have a 486 router (Cromwell) I've been planning on replacing with a P90 or such - I should rename it "Old_And_In_The_Way", or "OAITW", when I finally do get the newer one in here.
Other server ideas:
Morning_Dew (or MD) - Q3A Server Hard_To_Handle - Server running Sendmail Victim_Or_The_Crime - NT Server
Oh, just remembered - my previous P90 running FreeBSD was "Althea".
I'd just like to set you straight on the B-2.

Interestingly enough, this new language, "C##", has already been dubbed "D" by various industry experts.
(Note: Having to explain this joke means it is a great failure.)
"Man", you said the joke wrong. =)
Q: What did the Deadhead say when he ran out of acid ?
Amazing - this is the first off-topic post I've found really COOL. =)

Man I miss the old days.

Is that American or Canadian?
If it's Canadian, they have created quite a precedent - the American DoL may be forced to settle for $2 or $3 US!
Minnesota... A bit too close for my taste. =)
Ah yes, I know how that is.
