  1. If on Roswell Declassified · · Score: 1

Well, if Roswell didn't have any aliens, then how come a military expert said that a flying saucer had crash landed before the military insisted that it was just a weather balloon even though an expert could have easily identified a weather balloon, and it took several trucks to haul away the debris even though weather balloons can easily fit into the back of a trunk?

  2. It's amazing... on QBASIC Programming for Dummies · · Score: 1

I find it amazing how much blame has been piled on QBasic. It was my first programming language, and I first started learning it when I was 9. The book I used never even mentioned GOTOs except in its list of commands at the back of the book. I didn't learn how to write spaghetti code. Personally, I find the GOTO command useful at times, but I've never written spaghetti code. The book I used was so wonderful that it was a good stepping stone for me when I started learning C at age 13. I highly recommend QBasic; you just have to get the proper instruction. Unfortunately, the book Learn Basic Now is almost undoubtedly out of print, and it's a real shame. QBasic Gameshop might have actually been the best product Microsoft ever released considering how bad its products are nowadays. I know it's possible to start learning from a "real" language like C because people could only learn machine language at first, but perhaps it is better for some people to learn more gradually.

  3. How many of you are nerds- seriously? on Want Anime Network on Your Cable System? · · Score: 1

I wonder how many of you are actually nerds. I'm not talking about someone who likes to watch certain shows. I'm talking about a REAL nerd, someone who is into stuff like science, technology, computers, etc. Just because you're obsessed with something, doesn't mean you're a nerd. That's a geek; there is a difference. The reason I'm asking is because I'm surprised by how many anti-anime posts appear in the anime topics. I've read that nerds have a tendency to like anime. I even read a book (I think it was by Susan Napier) that even stated that most students who are into anime are ones majoring in either computer science or electrical engineering. I also read on a wbesite that there is a well deserved stereotype of anime fan being either a college student majoring in a math or science degree or an older adult who is in the high tech industry. Now I'm not trying to make you feel bad if you don't like anime. If you are a genuine nerd who doesn't like anime, fine. It just seems that anime topics get way more anti-anime posts than one would normally expect from a website that's supposed to be for nerds. An interesting aspect I've noticed is that so far every anti-anime post that I've read and that gives reasons for not liking anime tries to assert that ALL anime has a certain small list of bad characteristics and nothing more. Now I'm not trying to convert anyone to anime, but saying that ALL anime is a certain way when you haven't even seen ALL anime is just plain ignorant. There is nothing inherent anime characteristic that prevents it from being good. All an anime is is a cartoon that was made by Japanese people. Are you trying to say that it's physically impossible for someone with Japanese ethnicity to make a good cartoon simply because that person is Japanese or because the story in question is animated? That's like saying that's physically impossible for an American to make a good live action movie simply because the person is American or because the movie is live action. The point I'd like to make is that unless you've seen every single anime ever made, you cannot rightfully say that ALL anime has a certain characteristic unless it's characteristic that is a part of or logically implied by the definition of anime (that being a cartoon from Japan). Maybe most of you anime nay-sayers wouldn't be fans of anime if you saw a decent, diverse amount of anime, but there is probably AT LEAST one anime that each nay-sayer would like.
