If this gets passed, i think i want to find a way to revoke my citizenship.
All Jokes aside, how can we let these corporations, who are only bent on saving themselves, influence the rights of every human being in this country. Corporations have incredible influence over the civil liberties of individuals.
The worst part is, i can't even come up with a solution to the problems we've gotten ourselves into.
Some might say in retort, call your senator! write your senator! have a voice!
I've done that, and all I have ever gotten in response was a stock letter that answered none of my questions. Short of running for office, or quitting my job to become a lobbist. How can I make my voice matter at all? I feel completely left out of my government. Does anyone out there feel the same way?
I sat in on a research meeting today about writing a proposal to a similar DARPA project. These people will take any funding they can get because this is what they want to do. If DARPA funds it, it's theirs. The real insentive for making artificial inteligence with the money from DARPA is that they can do scientific research on the model while they create it for them.
Not everyone's out to get money. Contrary to popular belief, some people actually are in it for the thrill of the work.
Bullshit. Your argument only deals with fiction books. Technical books are often written such that you can read any chapter independently from the other chapters, so it can be used more as a reference than a novel.
Even though i'm excited about the prospect of curing cancer, this type of technology scares me. What is out there stopping people from modifying these little computers to kill say.... white blood cells?
It seems to me that this is a very possible negative side affect of this type of technology. Do my worries have any factual basis?
There has been a quote from Jurassic Park that has always stuck with me.
"...but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
I'm in almost the same boat as you. I'm a high school senior who is very interested in computer science, but i'm worried that all of the jobs will be exported by the time i'm out of college.
I have almost decided to completely switch to EE/CompE because of this. Lately i've been thinking about what will happen if bush's plans to go to the moon/mars actually happen. There will be a huge amount of job openings in those fields. I think it would be great for me to have a job relating to space. The only reason i can see to stay in CS currently is the fact that the united states will always have a need for computer security consultants. If this terrorist "red scare" continues for the next decade, security is, and will be a field in CS that people will not trust to offshore interests.
Anyway, that's just what i think about the subject.
Your comments really hit home with me. I'm 19 and i'd rather listen to the advice from elders than to whatever the TV is spouting out at me.

Just say no.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! There go my civil liberties..
Talk about failed projects. Think windows source will be one of them?
I love you. You just made my day.

Why is the parent modded 'informative'?

God, here come the "In Soviet Russia" trolls.

Nice move. Somewhere deep in the dungeons of the White House, your name has just been added to Bush's big black book labeled 'terrorists'.
Everyone knows that speaking out against the government's insecurities are terrorist actions.
Does anyone but me think this terrorism scare is borderline mcarthyism?

Yes, but is this worse than what oil is doing to the atmosphere?
