Why do we believe that to be intelligent you must have a technological civilization? It can be argued that dolphins & whales are intelligent. Could not an alien life form reach intelligence but not have the means to create technology?
N-Cube sounds cool and all but will it be able to play older N64 games? The one thing I like about the Playstation 2 will be its ability to run older Playstation 1 games (most of them anyway)
I don't know why it took so long for somebody to think of that. I spend all this money on the games (where they really rip you off) and then they release a new console and then your back to square one.
What do you believe is the inevitable goal of AI? To build a human equivalent intelligence (being self aware) or having a computer capable of understanding humans and the real world (common sense or least the simulation of it)
Mine just arrived last night and I had it up and running in just under two hours. I agree that the setup was easy if not a little long. I also like the fact that the provided all the cables I would need to hook up my equipment.
Can any one tell me what in the real world terms is the difference of the recording quality?
I'll be the first to tell you to get rid of Netbeui from your main network but there is one thing you can use it for.
In a DMZ you can setup a web server and use netbeui to connect to a resource server in the same DMZ and keep your resource server safe from several types of hacks, not perfect but still gives old netbeui a job
Even if this is the action that the government takes, just how long will it take to be implemented? You can be sure Microsoft will fight this to the bitter end.
I'm not an expert on these things but I could easily see this taking 1-2 years to completely break up the company. With the last two years being tied up in the anti-trust case already we are looking at 4 years to get a result from actions taken be Microsoft even earlier. That is an eternity in the computer industry. So what good is this break-up so long after the fact?
I don't know why anyone would want to use web-blocking software, none of them work. I have used several from NetNanny to WebBlock and all of them quickly start getting into trouble. They commonly block sites that don't have anything to do with porn or other "inappropriate" sites. When Webblock stopped our users access to a Ford supplier site I pulled the plug on it.
If the AFA want to filter porn - fine, but they are going about it the wrong way. Call for mandatory web site ratings and then filter by ratings. Similar to what premium cable does.
Example:
A web site has a Nude, Sex, and Adult ratings. A filter program could be set to filter a site that meets these three criteria but allow for such a site with Sex, Information ratings.
Yes I have had this problem too, even longer than 49 minutes to reboot. You're right about the services getting deadlocked. Also part of the problem is users logged on to exchange. Exchange's client kill function isn't so hot, the easiest way to crash a win9x box is shutdown a exchange server while user are connected. Outlook crashes and takes down windows with it.
But if you want to cut down on reboot time do a net stop on the exchange services and then reboot your box. Guarantied to speed reboot
I know its kinda of late in the game but who knows someone might see this post.
At first I thought this game was silly. I mean I play games for fun, I don't expect them to preach to me. When I play half-life I'm not picking up that aliens and soldiers are bad and that I should kill them all, I'm usually wasting a few hours of sleep by staying up to late.
But this game is actually trying to make a point and get a message across. Now I'm not going to debate what type of message its sending, as one can see from other posts everyone seems to have a take on it.
If the makers of the game had said this is just an angle vs. demon game nobody would have given it a second thought. But they didn't, it is sold as a christian game reportedly to show christian views. Why is this so bad? People show a point of view - try to get a message across in Movies, Book, and other types of media. Why shouldn't gaming be the same way?
The world of gaming has been changing a lot with computers, internet, and etc. Gaming isn't a board game any longer. More and more it is sold as interactive media, virtual reality, and total reality immersion. Perhaps War In Heaven is one of the first "Virtual Reality" with a message attached to it.
Along the lines of AC's brain cap and AI we could have group intelligence. Multiple brains networked together or networked with AI. Sounds a little like the borg, I know but I'm not thinking group conscious but the ability to access knowledge out side our own brain. Would be cool to access an entire encyclopedia right from my own noggin
I get an error about cookies not existing for the e-mail message. I didn't have this problem until just a few minutes ago. Guess MS is trying something. Still a huge security hole.
I agree, it seems hard to believe that they could make such an OS. But if they can it really show that M$ dosen't have a clue as how to write a program.

Sorry I don't like that logic.
If I get a new computer, I can still play the older games on it. If I get a new VCR I can still watch older VCR tapes on it.
Yes I can keep both - but why? I'm just saying that before there seems to be little thought to allow for new consoles to support older games.

P.S. Not to mention a real DVD player!

Which do you believe is actually possible?

Rendezvous with Rama - definitely my favorite of Clarke's. Really captured the mystery & adventure of exploring an alien starship.
To bad the sequels were so bad...Never write any thing with Gently Lee again

...Microsoft will now sell Win CE as the original hand held device.
We didn't go and rip off another company's product. We just copied it from our own crappy products.

I did a trace route and found that the route to hotmail seems to be down.
bordercore1.Sacramento.cw.net [166.48.188.1]
Can anybody confirm?

Hmmm looks like time to junk my MCSE and get a Red Hat cetification
