"A CPI Score relates to perceptions of the degree of corruption as seen by business people and country analysts and ranges between 10 (highly clean) and 0 (highly corrupt). Includes police corruption, business corruption, political corruption, etc. Data for 2005."
So this data combines three forms of corruption, only one of which is what we are actually talking about.
I completely agree. In fact I think if more people would just get over the "both parents have to work" idea, our whole country would be much better off and our childrens education would improve from having someone who really cares for them around to help them and encourage them.
...and they're on there way to third world status. Sounds great. Seriously though, they pay incredibly high tax rates so these serviced are not free. In most Eurpoean countries employees don't even know what their gross salary is. All thay know is take home pay. Even the French would revolt if they really knew how much they were paying to get these "free" services.
That is the problem. If there are people posting to/. who can't run a Linux desktop then it sure a hell isn't ready for prime time with the masses. I agree that the root of the problem might be with the users, but if Linux wants to rule it must solve those problems first.
The other thing Linux must change is its image. If Linux is seen as an OS for programmers/hackers who won't pay a dime for anything, commercial development will continue to struggle and there will be a big gap between windows and linux. When more SW companies can start making money on Linux it will take off.
This is off topic but don't even start bashing our medical system. It may have problems but its WAY BETTER than anything else out there. I have spent a year in Italy and 6 months in Germany and have had to use their socialized systems. When my daughter had a siezure we were told that she could have an EEG in 4 months, which would be after we returned to the US. In the states we got in within 4 days. While its true we didn't have to pay, I would much rather pay thru the nose and get good fast care than wait in long lines to see an overworked doctor who didn't really care about helping because he was to busy trying to figure out how to make money on the side. Don't be fooled by socialized medicine it just means that everyone gets the worst care.
