  2. Fundamental programming skills over school's brand on Best Way To Land Entry-Level Job? · · Score: 1

    It is difficult to get past the HR doorman indeed - because of "non-programming programmers" (CodingHorror). The answer to that are tools for automated verification of programming skills like Codility (http://codility.com/), which value fundamental coding skills over the school's brand and proficiency in CV writing!

  3. Re:Yes and No on "Logan's Run" Syndrome In Programming · · Score: 1

    Definitely - the key is to have fundamental programming skills, so to be able to solve given problems by writing an efficient code. I'm running Codility, a company providing automated online tests for programming job candidates - you may want to take a demo test at http://codility.com/ yourself :).

    The chairperson deliberately hid a letter from the Polish Committee for Standardization (PKN)President, asking all members of the voting committee to change their vote to abstain as no national consensus was reached.

    As the information about it came back to the PKN's President he decided to publish his letter on the PKN's website - http://www.pkn.pl/?pid=list_kt182&cid (polish only).

    To clarify - Polish PESEL was introduced in 1979 (!).
    It is 11-digits, (theoretically) unique number, which has format of YYMMDDZZZXQ, where:
    • YYMMDD is the date of birth (century encoded in month field, capable of storing 5 centuries)
    • ZZZ is the personal identification,
    • X stores sex information
    • Q is a control digit

    PESEL stores the following information:
    • unique PESEL number;
    • current first/last name;
    • previous first/last names (if existed);
    • parents' family names;
    • date and place of birth;
    • sex;
    • citizenship;
    • permanent residence address;
    • temporary resedence address (if lasts over 2 months);
    • person's ID document number;
    • date of death;
    • privacy clause;

    Currently, the PESEL2 is in the development together with electronic ID document called pl.ID.

  6. Polish IDG uses fansubs in their DVD products on Polish Fans Held By Police For Movie Translations · · Score: 1

    Legal or not - fansubs are being recognized even by such conglomerates as International Data Group (http://idg.com/www/homenew.nsf/home?readform). IDG Poland released Ghost In The Shell, Akira -http://kiosk.idg.pl/sklep_artykul.asp?KP=ANIME+++ +++++++- and GITS Stand Alone Complex series with fansubs as on of the subtitles option. If fansubs hadn't existed before there would be nothing to release. But before the official release fansubs were illegal - catch 22 until we change the IP law.
