Well, it depends on the context. Say you just happen to say Bombay or whatever. Probably no problem.
but if you shout "Bombay!" or say "I have a "Bombay!" you're asking for it.
The irony though is if she really had a bomb, how is pointing a gun at her going to help? Plus, no bomb sensors went off and air ports have PLENTY of these.
The person who called it in is a bomb expert now? They've seen real bombs? They know what a bomb is? And they're not at a distance to her at all?
They see something and react on instinct. Who are you to say their instinct was wrong? They felt like they were potentially saving the place.
These people don't know what a bomb looks like. They have an idea. And someone wearing cloths that are close to that idea, in an airport, is going to turn some heads. Not everyone is an electronics/bomb expert such as yourself. A lot of idiots aren't experts in that field and would only do what we thought was best.
Like I said, charge her with disorderly conduct and be done with it. She made a stupid choice and thankfully the police officer doesn't have to live with having killed an innocent college student.
Yeah you did, you were disorderly. That's why I said (maybe in another thread) that her charges should be dropped because she probably wasn't trying to fake a bomb. But she should be charged with disorderly conduct.
Get a grip and fight for something that matters. Fuck wads like this guy marginalize and disrespect those fighting for real freedoms. Look up the 100's of other organizations that are fighting for real rights, not petty BS like this.
What this guy did isn't helping anyone. But it gives fuel to those who want to destroy other rights.
Do you even know what suffering means?
Fuck this bourgeois rights BS. Fighting for rights in the department store? Get real.
She was wearing something that reasonably regular people could mistake for something threatening. It's stupid to do this in a place like an airport.
You want to push the envelope of what's OK in society, fine. But if you get a bullet in the head for being a dip shit, don't ask most people to care or martyr you.
So what you're saying is it's OK for me to run around an airport with squirt guns that appear pretty real, especially for someone who hasn't even seen a gun and is a little distance away?
It's only a squirt gun. I can't bring squirt guns into an airport?! Fuck the man, it's my RIGHT!!
Exactly. It has nothing to do with what CC or the cop did. It has to do with the fact that he was being fairly unreasonable and making a mockery of real issues and problems. So he pulls some jackass stunt like this and suddenly real issues are marginalized. Laws get passed based on this kids actions that regular folk think sounds fair to stop guys like him form wasting resources, and suddenly all types of useful rights are compromised.
Like I've said before, if he cares so much he should invest his time and money into the real issues. not some petty crap like this. He needs perspective and needs to get real. This is crap. Does he think anyone but a teenager or college student under 21 would think he's reasonable here?
Like he had any real rights taken away. What a joke. And now people actually working and fighting have been made to look like this guy. How sad.
Get over yourself. Of course she can wear this shirt, and it sounds like she does quite often. But in an airport, it's a pretty dumb idea, for what happened today. Look into context.
After reading TFA, it doesn't seem like she was trying to be cute and cause a scene. It sounds like she was just really stupid here. I'd drop most the charges and maybe give her a disorderly conduct ticket and be done with it.
Of course she wasn't, but it's not about what she thinks. It's what the airport security and employees think. They don't know her at all. She could be anyone for all they know.
I don't know if she should really be charged with anything. It sounds like she wears this a lot. So maybe let her know this was dumb, give her a disorderly conduct ticket and move on.
For causing a scene like this and almost forcing someone to blow her head off and having to live with that. Do you think the security officer wants to blow an innocent girls head off? Of course not, but he has to make split second decisions and this is something that looks suspicious.
She wasn't thinking when she decided that this type of fashion was something that wouldn't maybe turn some heads in an airport.
And frankly, I'm not sure of the legality of a piece of fashion like that in an airport.
She certainly sounds like she was trying to provoke something. Airports aren't the place to protest.
And as has been said, this could have been a situaion of "she was right, but she's dead".
Regardless of if it looks like a bomb (isn't that subjective anyways) it is certainly suspicious and the airport guards did the right thing.
I mean honestly, how many wear a bread board with led's, etc (and possibly hold putty or what appears to be in their hands) when they walk into an airport? Airports personal are going to look for suspicious activity and this definitely was.
WTF was this girl thinking? Was she trying to make a statement that a lot of people with no electronics experience think a bomb might look like something out of the show 24? She could have paid with a bullet to the head. Just stupid.
you just can't walk into an airport like this. You don't fuck around in those places.
Keep fighting for the bourgeois. After all, he's making America a better place by making demands for rights others don't care to protect or pay to protect.
Travel outside the USA some day and get some perspective.
Not at all. He shops at a store and the expectation is he will aid that store in preventing shop lifting so as to keep his price lower. They check receipts to make sure the right thing was rung up.
It takes a village, man. Everyone needs to cooperate to make it work. He didn't want to and it cost him $10,000.00 and lots of time and stress to him and his family.
Lets be real here, this is a rich kid who was wronged but could have avoided it by just showing his receipt and moving on. It isn't that big a deal. This doesn't mean that next he'll let cops search him on the streets whenever they want.
All this means is that he could have avoided a lot of mess for a lot of people by just doing this annoying thing. It isn't very hard. It isn't eroding our rights.
However, people like him are the cause of encroaching laws being made. Wait now as the state protects itself and creates a law that makes it a *right* for stores to search property, etc.
Who cares if he was right or not, he was being a prick and created a scene. He paid for it. There's the "law" and there's "social expectations". Social expectations often override law and in this case, he had the book thrown at him.
If you're so into the obedient law, are you promoting fascism? You want a police state where every bend of the law is enforced to the extreme? Is this what you're asking for? You want a fascist state?
Grow up, kid and realize that sometimes the law is going to be bent, malformed and broken to get at what most people would feel is "right". It's how a society works. Most laws are guidelines in finding out who is right. We don't need or want to the letter enforcement.
Wow dude, get a grip. He's hardly a "freedom fighter". I'd probably use the term "fucking douche bag".
He's a rich kid, asshole whose selfish pursuit of something silly wasted tax paid resources. If he's so serious about protecting rights, there's about 1000 other causes going on right now that actually have meaning that he could of helped out. Instead, he wanted to be a dick and he paid for it. I hope his silly, immature act of defiance was worth the stress, hours and $10,000.00 it's going to cost him.
Personally, I would have just showed the door guy my receipt because it's the right thing to do. I want to work with stores I go to in helping prevent stealing to keep the prices better for me. Sounds better than being so silly as to get arrested by a cop he called and then signing a paper stating the cop did nothing wrong. All the while paying $10,000.00 for the right to do so.
Especially since it involves a guy who was basically being a prick.
I'd rather the ACLU spend its time assisting the poor and disenfranchised in this country who are exploited form all angles. Bot some selfish, rich kid, prick who wanted to waste a lot of peoples time and money to pursue something as unimportant as this matter was.
They dropped the charges, after $7000.00 in fees, headaches for his parents and a waste of civil resources in a DA, judge and officer.
And what did he end up doing? He admitted the officer did nothing wrong (by virtue of signing his agreement, he admits this) and a lawyer made some money off of him. Now he's parading around like he's a champion. He's not. He's a loser.
The cop and all his buddies are probably laughing about this one and they all clearly know his name, car, etc. He will catch no breaks with law enforcement anywhere around that place. The courts know he's a trouble maker and he won't catch any breaks with them. There's quite a few agencies waiting to nail him.
His family was put through all types of stress and duress and were desperate enough to call him late at night and tell him to stop being a jerk. His family is likely embarrassed their son and brother is a borderline lunatic obsessed with unimportant civil law.
I sympathize with the kid who was tazered. The police used unneeded force to punish someone when it isn't the cops jobs to punish people. This guy though got what he deserved: A $7000.00 bill, lots of wasted time, stressed out and humiliated family and a fat target on his ass for cops and courts to nail one day.
Most of my investments have switched from American companies to commodities such as gold, silver and other intrinsic things. They aren't necessarily as high yield as some stocks are, but when the dollar really crumbles, I expect my gold to be worth a lot of "money". Who knows, in 10 years if the dollar is ruined and the Fed collapses (as all money schemes do eventually) maybe $1000.00 in gold today will be worth $20,000.00 of todays value then.
I'm not blaming China, I'm blaming US policy for allowing it to happen.
China is losing a lot now but they are also bankrolling infrastructure and very quickly. There will be plenty of markets left for them to dictate after they dump the dollar and start selling to the world at a real profit after being built up by the greedy USA.
China would lose their biggest partner, right now. This is true. But with the Euro gaining more and more and India emerging as well as its own country creating more and more demand, they would be left with many other partners they aren't using much of right now. Money doesn't disappear. And if the USD isn't worth anything that means something else is. China will gladly sell to whoever has the money. And whoever has the money will probably want luxuries.
They are indeed building an infrastructure. This is why they have kept their currency devalued for so long. It means it's very cheap for them to build and since their exporting a ton they can keep expanding faster and faster. They have a tremendous infrastructure being built as we speak. And it's being funded by the USA's desire for cheap crap.
If we were to just stop today, China would hurt. But in 5-10 years, it could and very well might be a different story. China is being very frugal with their export money and allowing American companies to make huge profits right now off of them. A time will come where China wants to get paid and the trend will reverse.
Don't be surprised when "Made In The USA" is something that foreigners see on their clothing, etc one day.
Actually, oil has approached a level in cost where drilling the Gulf of Mexico is now profitable. Chevron holds a lot of drilling rights to this area.
This reserve is thought to be the largest oil reserve in the world. It's the USA's wild card. These reserves have been known about for years but it wasn't profitable to drill them. Now they're finding there is more there than they ever thought.
Expect to be able to walk to Cuba on the tops of derricks in a few years.
But the idea is, is selling now low, but as high as it's going to be for a long time? If you think the USD is going to tank worse and worse, selling low right now could be in effect selling high. If you suspect others are going to sell, you get out now. This has happened in history before.
It only takes 1 nervous investor to start a chain reaction.
What we have going for us is the USA is a stable country. The Euro is performing well but how reliable is it that the honeymoon of the EU is going to last? Eventually something will happen that will split them and make skeptics of investors in the Euro. How long has Europe traditionally gotten along? The USA is still the most stable country in the world, mainly due to its infinite military might and alliance with other stable countries. The USA will back its dollar. You can say that with a degree of certainty more than anything else.
The USA farms a lot and has a lot of natural resources. Oil is at a price that drilling the Gulf of Mexico is worthwhile. This is the largest oil reserve in the world. Break will be put on tables one way or another here. The worlds largest infrastructure is in place as well. There's a lot of "real" assets here.
We need to export more than culture and guns though.
It's a pyramid scheme. They sell them to someone willing to assume a risk on them. They sell them below market value. Others in turn do the same. Eventually enough people will have gotten out and not want anything to do with the USA dollar. It's like a bad stock.
Eventually someone at the bottom gets stuck with them. That person is you and I.
What you're saying is they're stuck with them. I disagree. They can find buyers (lets face it, it's a USA dollar. It will always be worth something) who will pay below market values for them. Others will do the same, creating a domino effect of devaluation of the dollar in circulation.
What goods are they buying? Do you know what China is doing with all the dollars they have? Stashing them away by buying USA t-bonds. They're not investing in American companies, they're funding the war on terror. Essentially paying us off to build factories and infrastructure on the cheap.
They're going to get sick of holding worthless dollars and start selling their goods to emerging countries that can give them something of value back.
Seriously, people don't realize how seriously fucked we are if/when this happens.
And do they think that other countries won't jump on this? Wait for Argentina to stop selling us fuel. Now the price of fuel is $6.00/gallon.
Everything will go way up in price except peoples income. But it won't even be worth driving to work because you'll only be paying to get to and form work, back to the shelter or where ever.
The one thing that can save us is our massive investment in the military. Our research will have to continue to be top notch and our spending in the military will have to continue to be huge. We will be protection for hire. But even that's a nightmare. We become the nastiest country on the planet at that point.
Also, I guess our farms too. We do indeed have a ton of farms and create a lot of food.
Well, it depends on the context. Say you just happen to say Bombay or whatever. Probably no problem.
but if you shout "Bombay!" or say "I have a "Bombay!" you're asking for it.
